Congratulations to President Ford

This will probably upset a few people HERE, but today former President Gerald R. Ford, 38th President of the United States, became America's oldest president ever. Today he is 93 years and 128 days old-surpassing former President Reagan, who passed away at 93 years and 127 days.

America has had only four presidents reach age 90:
President Ford-93 years, 4 months plus
President Reagan-93 years, 4 months
President John Adams-90 years, 8 months (President Adams died in 1826, when reaching age 90 was totally unheard of).
President Hoover-90 years, 5 months

As I said, just those four presidents I mentioned above made it to 90, but President Harry Truman definately deserves honorable mention. He lived to be 88 years and 7 months old.
(He was president on the day I was born, and died on my 21st birthday).

I will always despise his pardon of Nixon (hey, a deal's a deal....:-? )
but I will always remember when, as a 14-year old skate punk, going to see him
make a campaign stump appearance at our local mall in '76

It was thrilling to see the President of our United States up close and in person! :)

It's good to hear that his health has been improving, too! 8)

Why would it possibly upset anyone? Those of us who might have disagreed with him politically can certainly celebrate his longevity.

Ellen-to tell you the truth, I really don't know why some people get upset because of the longevity of their political foes. But sadly, they do.
I know you and most others WILL celebrate President Ford's new place in history.
You and MOST others.

He is also the only president to ever hold the office of President that wasn't elected to the office.

You mean Leslie Lynch King, Jr.?

Michigan's only President, and the only one never elected as President or Vice-President, I believe. Surprised only four have reached 90, considering they all get top-notch health care.

Congrats, Mr. Ford. I've enjoyed your library, airport and freeway. :D

What a cool thing!!

My daughter has a placemat for our kitchen table with all the presidents and we were just discussing the other day how old John Adams lived to be AND how President Ford was never elected President or VP.

I love Presidential history.

I have always felt that those people who are interested in running for the office are not the best choice for holding it.

Thanks, President Ford, for your years of service.
Continued good health and long life.

But think of all the stress that goes into politics. It's not easy being the leader of the free world (especially during the Cold War).
