I don't think the Mets have much of a shot at getting him unless they overpay. His brother plays for the Padres and he's from out there so I'd say SD is probably his first choice.
I'll take Marcus to join his brother here in SD
..but he may go elsewhere since Alderson is trying to low-ball him

The secret is out... Pads have money to spend 8) :-?
Trying to get by using the "San Diego discount" just won't cut it anymore.

Oh yeah... I forgot about Beckett. Haven't really thought about baseball for about 5 months. Do you think he'll manage to get his head out of his ass this year?
I heard today on WEEI that they may trade Beckett or entertain offers.......i wouldn't do it.....after last year you figure they would learn!!and if they sign Clemens( I think it's a long shot)...but if they do....they also mentioned Wakefield as being the Closer....big mistake there!!!....and whats the deal with Matt Clement??
Remember, the only reason why the Red Sox are considering Wakefield in the bullpen, as a closer, is that he does have experience in closing AND with the knuckleball, rest is not really that much of a concern.
22 career saves...high was 15 /28 chances.......72 walks 146 hits in 140 innings that year...with a 6-11 record.....i don't see any pluses in him being the closer!!!.........i would be concerned!!!
I don't think Wakefield would be a permanent closer. I think they would have him as a stopgap until they can find someone who can be the closer.
With the additions of Donnelly and Romero.....i think one of them can close!!..........i would not put Wakefield in as a closer even as a stop gap........he doesn't throw strikes.....and gets behind hitters a lot!!...i think it would be a risk!!...he's a starter ...aguy that gives you innings and saves the Bull Pen....or he is long relief...not a 1 inning guy!!

I think they still have Timlin but with the year he had last year, who knows.

Rumors in the NY papers the last couple of days that the Yankees are shopping Randy Johnson. Are there really any teams out there that would be willing to take a 43 year old pitcher who's definitely on the downside of his career?
