How do you store a glass patio table for the winter...

... when you live in the midwest?

I've never owned a glass top patio table until this year... is it ok to leave it set up outside in the freezing temps and snow for the winter? Should we cover it with something?

We don't have a basement or anywhere inside to put the glass... and the garage or shed would still be cold, and I'm thinking standing it on it's end might not be such a good idea.

Thank you!

I don't have one, but I'd probably just cover it... they sell furniture covers for 'em.... Freezing temps alone shouldn't hurt it, but the snow/ice/cold combo might.

We've left ours out in all weather for the past few years with no ill effects whatsoever. Take the cushions off the chairs, remove the umbrella if applicable, and forget about it. If you're feeling the need to be cautious, toss a tarp over it to keep the snow off - I never do, though.

We bought a cover for the tables and chairs and everything has been fine for 3 winters. We do bring the umbrella inside for the winter.

When I had one I wouldn't leave it out however when we moved and didn't have room to store it, my now ex, suggested that we break the glass in two and thus it would take up less room. :o She was serious! :( No wonder we're divorced. :D

i have one and leave it out all winter in New Jersey. Although we don't cover it that might be a good idea to keep it looking new. As far as freezing that is not a concern.

Did I ever tell you about the time I left my bike outside for 2 weeks :o we had a beautiful Indian Summer much like the past few days and then bam rained for three straight days, much colder air came afterwards and I forgot about it. Well when I went to ride it again, it wasn't there

The local police contacted me the following spring to let me know they had found my bike. It was located 3 blocks from my residence abandoned, probably some kid :-? When I went to pick it up I was shocked to see so much rust, it probably sat at that house all winter and the salt air just ate it away :x very much like some cars I've owned

several years ago. Our glass table was in the un-heated garage on one of those -20 days we used to get before global warming. Anyway, I bumped it ever so slightly and it look like it exploded into 10,000,000,000,000, pieces :o

Move to Florida where you can use it year round and not have to store it? :D Just a suggestion my friend.

Mine has been outside on the deck for five years. Little rust on the metal legs, but no problems with the glass. (You have glass windows in your house, I assume. You don't bring those in for the winter...)

Glass is nifty stuff. It's a liquid (well, a fluid to be precise). It's just reeeeeeeally thick.

I've got a glass bar top plus a glass bistro. I put them in
my shed during the winter so the snow doesn't fall off the
roof onto them and break them. They're fine in freezing
temps during the Maine winter.

We also have a glasstop table and we leave it out all winter here in NJ....We just take a plastic garden bag - the 50 gal drum liners - cut it so it opens up to double it's legnth and secure it to the top of the table with a few bricks. If nothing else, it saves a bottle of windex in the spring when we go to clean it up....
