Airborne Effervescent

Post by Tiki Bar »

I had never heard of it, but apparantly Airborne Effervescent is a supplement taken to boost immunity, either before going in germy places like schools or airplanes, or at the 1st onset of cold symptoms. The person who told me about them swears by them.

I'm not big on effervescent medicines, and the thought of drinking water mixed with orange, lemon lime, or pink grapefruit flavoring grosses me out. But if it works??

Heard of it, but never tried it. After the last round of sickness at my house, I'd definitely give it a try.

I've heard of it but never used it. I'd be sure it didn't interact with any of the other medicines I'm taking first though. Just because it's minerals, vitamins and herbs doesn't mean it won't interact negatively with other meds.

I've been using it for a few years. I take it every time I get on a plane, and whenever I feel like I have a cold coming on.

We keep it in the house at all times. Any time we are going to travel (especially on a plane) we take it. If I feel a sore throat coming on I take it. I am currently taking it because my wife has a sore throat and I do not (if history repeats, I will not).

I use it, and recommend it to people... my kids being in school, they tend to bring crud home. It seems to keep colds at bay, or reduce the length of them... I also use "Emer'gen-C", which doesn't have zinc or echinacea (sp?), but the Vitamin C in it seems to help some.

I tried Emergen-C, but couldn't do it...it just tasted sooooo nasty.
I use airborne frequently......cold and flu season is just starting, so we'll see!

Thanks for the replies!

For those who use Airborne, does it taste ok? Can you compare it to anything? It sounds so yucky, I don't know which flavor to try!

I'm flying to DisneyWorld Saturday, and am wondering about having the family take it before we get on the plane. I developed a nasty sinus infection when I went to Vegas a couple weeks ago, but I'm not sure if it was pre-existing or not.

The regular (Orange) flavor isn't too bad, but I prefer the Pink Grapefruit. I've tried the lemon-lime, but I don't like it as good as those two, and if there are other flavors I haven't tried them. The taste... well, it's not terrible... but it's not something I'd drink if it weren't "good for me"... I will dissolve the tablet in a little water, so I can drink the whole deal in one shot.

I don't mind airborne at all.....I use the lemon lime and it's not bad....not 'GOOD' as in I'd choose one for a beverage....but certainly drinkable....like I said though, the other brand is VILE....

I don't take any "preventative" medicines as they have been proven to affect the body's natural immune system in fighting off bacteria

I heard about this for the first time last year. My daughter (15) used it through the flu season and she only had one minor cold. The year before she was sick every 4-6 weeks the whole winter!
We always use it when we travel. I think airplanes are just large incubators for germs with the recycled air. :o
It's basically vitamins, herbal extracts and amino acids. But anybody who takes prescription meds should check with their doctor. OK, the nurse is now getting off her soapbox. [smilie=battingeyes.gif]
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I've used Airborne in the past, and had mixed results with it.

I do know that it has a ton of vitamin C in it, and I made the mistake of using Airborne and drinking a lot of OJ which wasn't a good idea. Too much vitamin C will wreak havoc on your digestive system.

We tried the lemon/lime and orange. Not great, but tolerable. :)

I hadn't heard of it, but you're not supposed to mix Zinc and Vitamin C- I think it either messes with your stomach or makes the zinc ineffective.

But I do swear by zinc!

Possibly psychosomatic, I felt a sore throat coming on, so I picked up a box of orange, and a box of lemon lime tonight. Orange wasn't that bad... tolerable is a good description for it. We shall see.

My 8 yo has also complained of a sore throat, and I wanted to give some to her too. But I was out at Girl Scouts, and when I got home, I learned she'd fallen asleep by 7:30... normally have to corral her to lay down at 9:00. :o Strep's been going around, so I hope if she's getting it, she wakes up with it, so I can get her to the dr before our trip.
