Quote of the day from Jimmy's lawyers...

From this wire story (
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=530502) about Jimmy suing a fellow sellling his merchandise online, I found this quote from one of Jimmy's lawyers that made me laugh out loud. Sure the guy with the site is probably wrong, but as much as I and everyone else here loves Jimmy, we all know this is just a blatant lie!
"Many of these products are ones (Akard is) not even authorized to sell, but primarily, the problem is that, in some cases, the markup on items is as high as 50 percent," lawyer Anthony Buzbee said. "
Jimmy Buffett's not in business to make money, certainly not anymore, and he doesn't appreciate what this guy's been doing."

Ok, Jimmy I love you like a brother but come on. If you weren't still in it for the money you'd be donating half of what you make to charities like Harry Chapin did. I'm not saying that you don't donate but this statement is ludicrous. Or maybe you do and just don't say it. Let the screaming at me begin!

I can't imagine why a lawyer would say or write something so.....
silly. EVERYBODY is in
business to make money. Of course there are other reasons why Jimmy does what he does: he loves to perform and make people happy, he loves to be able to help in the causes that he believes in, he wants his family to be able to realize their dreams with the money's help, etc....................

When a T-shirt at a concert cost $35-$40 there is no room for complaining about a 50% mark up!

I doubt he checked with Jimmy to see if he could make such a statement. I would guess that JB would've stricken it from the record. Not because it true or false, but because it's just foolish to say.

Finally someone posts something that makes sense with regard to Bubba and his lawyers!!!!
To reiterate, his lawyers tried to shut down my stores [links below] because I used a sentence to the effect of "If you're a Jimmy Buffett fan like me..." in the description of my store. In other words, you would have to actually be at my on-line store to even see the mention of his name.
I love his music, but JIMMY BUFFETT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Don't kid yourself.

I still say there is more than meets the eye here and it has sure gotten some media!!!
This Tony Buzbee is NO dummy and is a mover and shaker. I'm glad I have learned some stuff about him.
http://www.txattorneys.com/Bio/AnthonyBuzbee.asp
Description SINCE THE BUZBEE LAW FIRM OPENED IN 1998 it has won virtually every case it has tried, or obtained a superb settlement along the way. Over the past five years, it has recovered over $225 million for its clients in complex personal injury and commercial litigation cases. Its seven attorneys are known not only for being aggressive, smart and efficient, but also for their passion...

Isn't that redundant?
Jimmy has been quoted as saying he is a businessman as well as an entertainer..and I for one, say Good for him!
That, and Us, is the reason he's still around after all these years......
Yeah , Yeah...Stage 9 parrothead here...

by Quiet and Shy
I posted this several days ago when the story was first in the news:
Quiet and Shy wrote:Yes, Jimmy may well have a case here with this guy Akard but he's got a bigger PR issue with the comments being made by his local lawyer. Jimmy's lawyer Buzbee complains the guy's greedy by marking up a sign 50% and says "Jimmy Buffett's not in it to make money" although Buffett's CDs are selling for less from Akard than from Margaritaville ($16 vs. $16.95, to say nothing of the nasty can-of-worms called concert ticket prices). And then there's Buzbee's comment about chasing Akard around the country and the desire to "shut down the site". When someone violates a trademark you don't "shut them down" (e.g. "Cheeseburgers in Pair-a-dice"), you make them change the name and claim damages. And, it's risky to have taken this straight to court (public) vs. first trying to work behind the scenes for resolution...even with a familiar foe.
I'm a strong believer in free markets as well as intellectual property rights (copyrights, trademarks, patents, etc.), and I think JB generally takes a win-win and wise approach to business (which I respect), but so far this one's a miss. The first thing he needs is a different (or much better informed) spokesperson...because what I've seen so far is just plain sloppy...even if Jimmy is 100% right on this.
