Good on ya, you will find no shortage of stuff goin' on and friendly folks during MOTM. Haven't met many BN'ers in person YET but the people I've met over the years at MOTM from other PH clubs are some of best, real folks you'll meet, and I have no doubt BN'ers are right there as well [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif] No worries on the solo travel thing, been doin' it now for 10 years, piece a cake, sometimes it's the only way to git-ur-dun, travelin' clean [smilie=coolup.gif]
I have a good male friend who gives me grief about not taking solo vacations, but I remind him it's a tad different for a female. But as crazy as Key West is I never feel that it's a threatening environment if you use your head. I'm counting on having a "pack" to travel with once it starts to get late though. Big adventure for me :)
I just had the “female traveling solo” conversation with some friends the other day and, you are correct, I can see where it is different for a female to travel solo, depending on where you go. Just gotta travel smart, especially when out of country, I’ll have to tell you about a Bogata, Columbia trip sometime, yikes :o :o . I have traveled a lot with my married friends as well. It’s great for saving money on both sides; you split condo’s, houses, cottages, etc. They call me if they want to stay in a little nicer place, we can split the $$$$, I don’t take up much space, and go do my own thing, works well. I guess it all started years ago when I got tired of trying to get my single friends together for trips, seems like all I did was wait for this or that, and it ended up not happening, so I just started going, the heck with it :pirate:

I've been to the last 5 MOTMs and Jimmy's been there for 2 of them - 2002 and 2004. But my favorite MOTM is still 2003.

It's why I finally just sucked it up and started renting my Nantucket place every year by myself! Sheesh. Millions of excuses. Although to be fair I don't have kids that are finishing up college or anything either so my disposable income is a bit more umm, disposable.

Without sounding sappy I've been incredibly impressed at the PM's I've gotten extending hospitality from people who don't know that I'm not an axe murderer or some other kind of psycho! This is one very cool group of people, I'm completely amazed at the kindness.

I am only alone during the time I want to be..

I'm going to MOTM alone, my first solo vacation ever ! The hubby didn't want to go, but I knew I couldn't miss it. He said he didn't mind me going so I hurried up and registered, got a room at the Best Western, and got airline tickets before he could change his mind !! 8) 8) 8)
You are never alone in Key West during MOTM. You can sidle up to anybody and make new friends. Hanging with BalconyGirls and BalconyGirls#2 and Q&S was fun at MOTM 2005. I'm rooming with my Parrothead club prez and friend, Jill. We won't be joined at the hip but I imagine we'll do stuff together, especially that Club Leader's brunch. And there are about 5-6 girls in our Parrothead club who are also 'bachin' it and I'll hang with them...half of them are virgins and the other half went last year and the 'flood' kinda messed them up...plus, they missed some stuff so I have to show them things like the Green Parrot, etc. I'd love to tear up some places with you, ScarletB....one word of warning: I like to have fun and be silly without getting dangerous or stupid. And don't pay any attention to what R2 or ragtopW says about me. I did NOT do whatever they say I did. Nope. Fibbers, both of them. [smilie=whistle.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Really ? :o yikes. 8) 8) 8)

And they're not virgins, per se....they are MOTM virgins. gah. I don't know any virgins. Well, except for my grandbaby girl.

Another side note: when I told my parents I was going to Key West by myself, my mother got all over herself, saying it was too dangerous for women to travel by themselves and I shouldn't go and all that. My dad piped up and said, "uh, Carolyn....you went on a road trip with my sisters to Florida in the eighties." You shoulda seen her face ! "oh, yeah, I forgot" she says. I laughed so hard. [smilie=lol2.gif] [smilie=lol3.gif]

I know my mom isn't thrilled with it either - but all she said was "Boy you really are independent aren't you???" Funny no matter how old we get they still worry.

Silly but not stupid sounds good to me! At my age no one wants to see me flash anymore but short of that I'm up for anything. I am SO looking forward to this! I have my hotel and I've registered but I don't have plane tix yet. Still trying to decide whether to fly all the way or take the ferry from Ft Myers. I hear the water could be iffy that time of year but I HATE those tiny planes! Can't wait to spend time with friends I haven't met yet.

Don't be silly, flash away. :o :D

We flew down last year to Ft.Lauderdale on a big plane. As we were getting into the 12 seater to continue the trip, Mrs. Al stopped in the door & said "No way I'm getting in there" "Sorry dear, we've come this far, in you go." With a gentle push (shove) she was in. 1 hour later we're in Key West. I liked it better than driving.
