Sanibel Island New Year's Eve

Post by Catch&Release »

My fiancee and I are going to Sanibel Island for a long weekend over New Year's Eve. Looking forward to several days of doing very little!

We're wondering which of the restaurants on Sanibel or Captiva might be a fun place to ring in the New Year at midnight. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't know if they are planning anything big but I would check with the Tarpon Lodge in Pineland.
I live in Ft Myers and can tell you that Tarpon lodge is the neatest vacation property in SW Florida. They are an old 1940's lodge that has been renovated but still maintains its charm, that sits right on Pine Island sound. The food is top notch and they have a cool, dark wood paneled bar that will searve anything you may want including great Bloody marys for breakfast.
It is off the beaten path and not on Sanibel but take from a local, it is way more "old Florida" than anything Sanibel can cook up.

tarpon lodge is fun. you may run into our favorite author, randy wayne white ( whom we met a few times)there. he's buddies with the owners.however, getting there by anthing other than a boat, from sanibel is a long drive.
you could go to randy's place called, doc ford's sanibel rum bar. it's on the corner of san -cap road and i believe rabbit road.

or try the bar side ( crow's nest ) of 'tween waters on captiva. they always have something going on. i would call there first because it may require a reservation. we have had a blast there.

Re: Doc Fords....they used to have a rum sampler which was a 3 rum flight of top shelf rum. They stopped advertising this about 1-2 years ago. However, if you happen to run into the manager, and ask nicely, he will hook you up with a tremendous flight of very healthy pours...gave me one for $10 last summer. I could not drive home after it.

For New Years Eve, I would suggest The Mucky Duck on Anne Rosse Lane. Go to Captiva, and take a left at the stop sign (LOL). They have an evening Sunset Celebration that is pretty good (not Mallory Square good, but still nice...at least here you can wander into the GOM with a boat drink in hand). I'm sure they will have a New Years Eve party.

BTW, I'm jealous.

Thanks, everyone. We had a great time. We tried Doc Ford's the night before New Years Eve. It was great. I didn't get the rum sampler b/c I was driving. I did have one of their Mojitos which was excellent.

We had a great New Years Eve. During the day we kayaked around Buck Key. We even saw two manatees when we got back to the marina.

New Years Eve we were able to get a table at Timbers where our New Years Eve meal was excellent. They had Perrier Jouet Fleur champagne which we had last New Years Eve when we got engaged so we splurged and had it again this year. I had fried oysters and my fiancee had a petite filet and both were outstanding.

We had a great, great weekend.

Happy New Year!

sounds like you had a good time down here.

Hope you took a rod with you when you Yakked Buck key, with the winter low tides we find lots of tailing redfish on the Buck key flats right now.

We didn't get a chance to fish. We were in during high tide and didn't see any feeding redfish. We did see an osprey grab what was either a small sea trout or a large mullett. We also saw a frigate bird which was neat as I'd never seen one outside of the Carribean.

The Bubble Room is my absolute favorite restaurant on Sanibel Island.
