Surviving the Holidays-Maintain-NOT GAIN!

Ok the thread on Holiday cookies, prompted this thread.

I'm avoiding all of this stuff. Or at least limiting it. It's sooooo hard this time of year with all the yummies out there, but it CAN be done!

My goal is to not gain weight during the holidays. I've worked toooo hard to blow it. Suprisingly, I managed to lose 6 lbs over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

anyone else serious about surviving the holiday and maintaining or losing weight???

I'll consider it a success if I can still enter the house without having to use the garage doors.

I lost three pounds over Thankgiving Holiday.
It's not that I'm not gonna eat certain foods. It's really all about portion control. 66 pounds since August and I'm sportin' a speedo come spring!!

You're absolutely right - if it doesn't fit on one of those saucer sleds, I won't eat it.

you're right about portion control.

it's also about limiting your social functions a bit.

the more you go to, the more you'll eat. it's inevitable.

so i limit that too....

You can do it!!!!!!!!!! :D

After I gained a ginormous amount of weight during my second pregnancy, I eventually shed the extra pounds.

For me, the key was balance and moderation, combined with some exercise. Not anything major, but lots of walking, gardening, cycling and just keeping active.

I love food too much to diet, so by keeping the day to day lifestyle balanced, I could eat what I wanted when going out or for special occasions.

The weight didn't come off overnight, but slowly and steadily. I was eventually brave enough to weigh myself when my son was about six months old... I'm 5'7" and weighed 187. I now maintain between 135-140 (or size 8 ) and feel very healthy.

Being healthy is what's important! Everybody's natural weight is different.

Good luck! If you ever need encouragement, please pm me. I know how tough it can be! :D

In college a buddy and I had a wager to see who could gain the most in one day. That day was Thanksgiving. We weighed ourselves in the morning and at night. I don't recall the exact weight, but it was more than 7 pounds for both of us.

i'm saying you got to pick and chose. How many social events have you been invited too? I have MANY. I'm just saying you can't and SHOULDN"T go to them all, unless you have unbelievable willpower or you want to gain weight.

BY NO MEANS i'm I goign to be sitting home fat and unsocial either. Nothing tastes as good as being healthier feels, I'm sorry. I'll be at the gym and turning down eating out everynight..but I'm still going to treat myself.

not suprising! I think the avg weight gain during the holidays is 10 lbs.

It's EASY to put it on, but it could take MONTHS to take it off.

i disagree. you're not getting the point here.

I'm still goign to be social. but a normal social. I'm not going to xmas parties every night...because chances are there are parties every night.

because for each social function i have, i have to have a plan. I have to make & take healthy foods and fill up on those. It's alot of work. It's called environmental control. The less you're in a bad environment, the more successful you'll be at maintaining your weight or losing.

i'm not being ridiculous here. I'm just telling you what you don't want to hear, apparently.

I'm going to the A1A Parrothead Club Christmas Party this weekend.
My plan is to be full when I get there so I'll probably just have a few brewskis. Of course when I actually get there all bets are off.
This has worked in the last few months for other events that I've went to and even when I have had something to eat it was not much at all..
