A brand new forum

I have cut way back on my postings here mainly because I tire of all the political B.S. that has crept into this forum. I don't care if it is the far-right or the far-left, whatever is said here will not change anyone's viewpoint. I sincerely hope that people who do post a politically leaning topic do not think that a Jimmy Buffett website is their best vehicle for putting forth honest debate. Although debate is usually not what the poster is looking for, just a place to spout their views and be able to say how "the other side" is absolutely wrong.
So, I will step off my soapbox and ask you all if you would support a separate "Politics" forum? I am not saying that I have any influence on the site or that this poll will sway the mods, but it can't hurt to have them know how we feel.

I used to post at COBO and I think the long, painful downhill slide at that site began when a political forum was added. I vote NO.

I agree with you 100%
When I see a thread going political I usually stay away
I use this site for Phun, recreation, and Phriendship

This has been discussed recently among the moderators and PHJim, Yno. There will not be a new forum for political discussion.

Adding a forum for it would encourage it... it's not difficult to stay away from political topics...

There is plenty going on here besides political threads...if you don't want to participate in those threads DON'T.
I think it's a bad idea to devote a separate forum to these topics.
Folks are welcome to discuss issues as much as they want in individual threads as topics are generated,
but a separate forum would likely generate even MORE topics IMHO.

Do you not see that already happening in this forum? I was just asking if moving it from Off Topic Area was a good idea. But you have your opinion and (surprisingly for this forum) I respect that.

Not to the extent that it happened at COBO, not even close. And like a few other people have said, I think having a separate political forum would only lead to more of the same.

I don't read by forum anyway. I only use the Latest Post area (for the most part). So a new forum wouldn't make any difference to me.

Agreed. The way it is now, the political stuff tends to come and go with the political season. Before an election, it heats up.... afterwards it recedes. Actually haven't seen much political here since the week after the election.
A forum devoted to politics would just feed on itself. Let's NOT go there...

I was a moderator at COBO and I got suspended once. I'm pretty sure it was something I said in the political forum.

I recently stumbled across a topic that was about All Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. While I have my opinions on the subject, I refrained from posting because I am certain that others would not agree and either I would get blasted or would be doing some blasting.
I chose to abstain from the political discussion. However, there are a billion topics that are non-political that are always popping up - Kenny Chesney for eample. So it doesnt matter if it is politics or non-politics. Opinions arise and differences come with them.
No one has to participate in a political discussion if they choose not to. No one has to add their opinion on a subject if they choose not to. Use your discretion. However, this is a forum and by definition it is where you can voice your opinions.
