Took my keets to see Happyfeet. It's a cute cartoon 'bout penguins.
The animation is awesome and Robin Williams is hilarious as usual.
Not to give anything away, but toward the end, there is an in your face environmental message. Now, I'm a card carrying Democrat, but this seemed a little over the top, even for me. I mean, usually those Hollywood types are a little more subliminal. Comments?
I haven't seen it yet - but 2 of my good friends did and they said it was a MUST SEE.
They never mentioned any environmental message. They just said it was a good movie, that Don and I would like it and to not wait till it come out on DVD - to see it in a theater.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
This is what our local reviewer had to say about HAPPY FEET... and he's generally "right on".

(The local Newspaper reviewer didn't seem to notice the Environmental message)
....so I guess some pholks notice...some don't.
I'm confused, even angry, about Happy Feet. For the first hour, this is one of the most stunning, joyful, beautiful films of the year, telling the story of an outcast penguin who can dance rather than sing.
Great music, great animation, great voices, all blending in harmony that had me applauding in my seat. Then, all of sudden, Happy Feet becomes a threatening, sour, message movie about everything from open water fishing to ambiguous environmental concerns.
What happened.? I felt duped and fooled as if I was having dinner friends and it turned out to be a pyramid scheme.
I love the first hour, but I find the final 40 minutes of Happy Feet , irresponsible.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

According to some newstalk folks, the whole movie is a thinly veiled environmental documentary disguised as a cartoon. I find that disturbing, there are better ways to present your message than exploiting a kids cartoon.
Of course I have also realized that the majority of the public is ignorant and the subliminal (or not so subliminal) messages usually go right over their heads, so it's a wasted effort.

Ummm, were we talking advertisers here? I don't think so. Perhaps I should have said cartoon MOVIE for those who missed the topic.

So what you're saying is, we should all go out and shoot penguins, right?

Only you, Frankie...only you. After you're done clubbing the seals, of course.

I'm against seal clubbing. I feel it promotes the use of illegal seal drugs and pre-marital seal sex.
