The forgotten Buffett tune

I generally can recite the lyrics to all off Buffett's tunes, can tell you which album the song came from, etc. But every now and then a "forgotten" Buffett tune surfaces. I originally had Riddles In The Sand and One Particular Harbour on one of thos 2:1 CD's. Recently I found out they cut "When The Wild Life Betrays Me" was cut to fit the 2 records onto 1 CD. I was surprised that the song had been around for >20 years, and I didn't know it. Tonight I was listening to my Ipod and "Altered Boy" came on, and although I've listened to Far Side of The World many mamy times, I couldn't recall the tune. Maybe it's dementia (from too much tequilla), but has anybody else discovered a "forgotten" Buffett Tune?

Altered Boy is probably best considered "forgotten".

I don't know about forgotten but skipped yes: Math Sux, Cultural Indfidel, Cheeseburger, Mango, Marg, Volcano... A few others.

Forgotten to be played - Wonder Why We Ever Go Home

Never played and obviously forgotten - A Salty Piece Of Land and Island Fever. What a shame that neither of those tunes have ever been played on tour. With the CRBand that is.

Brahma Fear is another one. He needs to haul that one out before...

I'd like to forget Altered Boy. What an awful song.

Is Altered Boy worse than Cultural Infidel, Math Sux, Taking It Back or Turning Around? It's got to be better than all of those combined! At least it's actually funny.

Bad is relative, and that's a boy I don't want to be related to.

Funny you should mention Island Fever. Just recently went on a cruise and when I turned the TV music on, Island Fever was the first song I heard. (Of course I was singing, I think I've got a case of CABIN fever!)

Island Fever was even released as a single CD. I didn't realize it had never been played at a LIVE show.

Was Salty Piece of Land played at the New Orleans Coastal Confessions Night with some of the Coral Reefers? I can't remember.

From what I recall A Salty Piece Of Land was played at the Coastal Confessions (I wasn't able to go). But does that truly count? Nahhh. He didn't have the CRB with him right? That's what I mean - playing it on tour. Maybe if that ever truly comes out on DVD we'll have a better idea. HA!

I remember seeing JB at Jazz Fest in 1998 hoping he'd play a few tunes from DSTC. He didn't even MENTION it! However he did open the set with a smokin' version of Saxophones - right after Irma Thomas performed even.

That's cool you heard Island Fever somewhere other than your CD player. Such a great song. It really captures the classic JB sound and even sounds like a leftover from CILCIA. Hell, it practically is CILCIA, same little hook. I think Island Records missed the mailboat on that one. Even though it was released as a single - to who? I never heard it on radio anywhere. It's such a great song I've always been stunned that he doesn't have it in the set list, especially now that Fingers is playing a few shows here and there.

I wasn't disagreeing with you about ASPOL being played by the whole Coral Reefer band. Maybe one day, Jimmy will decide to do that one as a surprise in concert.

I like that song so much. It was my avatar for a while and IS my status NOW. While in Cozumel and Costa Maya area, I searched for all the lighthouses to see which one might be the Cayo Loco one. I'll have to make a trip back. Saw lots of lighthouses in the distance from the ship! :) :)

Also, I assumed Island Fever was a single release since I got a single CD of it. Don't know where it originated. I'll pull it out later and see if it is a promo. I think I got it on ebay.

Still waiting for live version of Altered Boy...

Beyond the End is such a great song too. And I guess Jimmy will NEVER perform False Echoes live--another very special song NOT forgotten.

Nobody Speaks To The Captain No More is a gem of a song and I don't know if it's ever been played live or even on the radio.

I listened to False Echoes the other day while driving through Mississippi into Louisiana and I just love James Taylor's harmony on that. I would think Jimmy would probably not want to play it live.

I'd love to hear him do a dinky show with some horns and do tunes like Blue Heaven Rendezvous, Sending The Old Man Home, You Call It Jogging, Stars Fell On Alabama, Christmas Island, those types of tunes. Altered Boy would fit in with those types of songs. As well as some of the ballads he used to do, is still doing or has never done live, which would include False Echoes, Happily Ever After, Lunch...Forever, Lone Palm, Distantly In Love, African Friend etc... Which I think is the kind of show he's always hinted at wanting to do but fears that no one would show up because of no Marg, Cheese, Sailor, the usual SJPTD and so on. Which is really silly if you think about it. He could totally get away with doing 'forgotten' and favourite songs anywhere he wants to.

Hell you take all those jazzy and campy tunes over the years, that would be a cool compilation.
