What's your favorite tradition???

While posting on the Christmas Island thread, I began to think....What is your favorite Christmas thing to do?? I can't feel like the Seaon until...

I hear the Hallelujah chorus from Messiah

Hearing Linus answer Charlie Brown's questions..."Does Anybody know what Christmas is really all about?"...Linus walks out on stage and says "Lights Please"...

I change the plug-ins to apple cinnamon or Pine Forest

We unlaod the closet into the livingroom floor and remember Christmases past as we sort thru things. Especially out grown baby things. Mollie has had many smocked dresses for the holidays and most my Mom (MangoNana) made.

We decorate the tree with all the things the kids have made thru the years. (My tree is totally a Mommy tree)

We bake and decorate our gingerbread house. A tradition my mom began when I was 2. The year my father left and we had NO MONEY...be we didn't know it. Now my kids look forward to it.

The first batch of cookies the first weekend in December :)

The mention of baking usually brings a good handful of people over and it's always a nice, warm experience, and one I look forward to.

That and the way my dog stares at me while I'm taking them out of the oven.

I'm with Sy... the Christmas Cookies are on the top of my list.

Mulled Wine is a must on Christmas Eve.

I always read "The Night Before Christmas" to my boys.

In England, I used to go horse riding on Christmas morning with my girlfriends, and we'd stop at the pub for a sherry and mince pie - I miss that one...

Watching the Classic Movies... :D

It's not Christmas season until I hear Springsteen's version of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (recorded live at C.W. Post College on Long Island) on the radio.

I have to hear "Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney and "Merry Christmas From the Family" by Robert Earl Keen.

Me, Bob Roberts, and my dad have the annual fruitcake throw. My grandmother makes this awful fruitcake every year and no joke...it bounces. Imagine how much fun we have with that. We wait until she's gone. We'll never tell her about it.

We have our annual trip to Disney World right after Christmas. I think we've done it 4 or 5 times now. For me Florida in January is not too hot and not too cold. Perfect weather.

Coming home on Christmas Day night from all the meals and present-swapping, getting into some comfy pj's, with a little drinky-poo, and watching a really good movie. :D

Good call on the Charlie Brown thing...

Another one is we take the kids in the car and cruise around town listening to Christmas music and looking at lights.

Coming home on the half-day before Thanksgiving and decorating my home with my wife.

Hearing my kids at school singing in the Christmas program. It always reminds me of the "Christmas Time is Here" recording by the Peanuts.

Snuggling up on the couch with my wife and gazing at the tree with a cup of my grandmother's Russian Spice Tea and watching several movies:
-The Christmas Story
-Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer
-Charlie Brown Christmas
-Home Alone
-National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Hearing favorite Christmastime songs on the radio:
-Christmastime is Here (Charlie Brown and the Peanuts)
-Ho, Ho, Ho and a Bottle of Rum (Bubba)
-Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime (Paul McCartney)
-Merry Christmas From the Family (Robert Earl Keen)
-Christmas in Dixie and Tender Tennessee Christmas (Alabama)

Eating good homecooked goodies all month long at school and parties

Christmas Eve finger-food dinner at the Inlaws'

Christmas eve my husband and I hand out candy canes to people as we welcome then into a local park in town that is decorated with about 90 lighted dislpays. Over the last 7 years we have done this. There is a regular bunch of us that do this and it has become tradition. It is a free will donation and in the past we have raised as much as $2000 in that one night. I get more out of that than sitting in Church. There is much goodwill and people actually thank us for doing it. We come home feeling very good about life.
If anyone of you are in Soutwestern Ontario, St. Thomas (near London) .......www.pinaforeparklights.com

After all the decorations are up, we watch the Muppett Christmas Carol. Watch for the part where Beaker is asking Scrooge for a donation. The famous line, is "I WISH TO BE LEFT ALONE!" Anyway, Beaker gives Scrooge the finger before he leaves:o
