He needs to get this one an album soon. I've got a couple live recordings, but would love to have a professional copy.
Or he could just release 'A Coastal Confession' on DVD, that'd be fine with me. --then we'd have A Salty Piece Of Land too!

As for the question, how 'bout Ballad Of Spider John or Defying Gravity? And my seasonal choice Run, Rudolph, Run.

Pacing the Cage and specifically that in bold

Holding out a bloody sword
No matter how I squint I cannot
Make out what it's pointing toward
Sometimes you feel like you've lived too long
The days drip slowly on the page
And you catch yourself
Pacing the cage

I've proved who I am so many times,
The magnetic strip's worn thin
And each time I was someone else
And everyone was taken in.

Powers chatter in high places
Stir up eddies in the dust of rage
Set me to pacing the cage.

I never knew what you all wanted
So I gave you everything.
All that I could pillage
All the spells that I could sing

It's as if the thing were written
In the constitution of the age
Sooner or later you'll wind up
Pacing the cage

Sometimes the best map will not guide you
You can't see what's round the bend.
Sometimes the road leads through dark places
Sometimes the darkness is your friend.
Today these eyes scan bleached-out land,
For the coming of the outbound stage
Pacing the cage...

Lovely Cruise gets me that way, too. It's just hard to believe he didn't write that one....

Ballad Of Spider John - Willis' version is a bit more ragged. It's very difficult to tell who's is better but I'm going to go with the original, WA Ramsey. But I do love Jimmy's version.

Stories We Could Tell - The beauty of doing someone else's song in the middle of a great record is you forget someone else wrote it. This tune is probably the most classic example of that.

Biloxi - Jesse did two versions of this, one with a piano. Jimmy's version is a bit better.

The Last Line and Coast Of Marseilles - I wonder if Keith Sykes has any more gems tucked away somewhere that Jimmy hasn't done.

Steamer - Another great version of a song that fits in very well with the rest of the album.

Why You Wanna Hurt My Heart - Art Neville's tune - I have the Live At Tip's album of the Neville Brothers doing this song and it's pretty funky. Jimmy's is produced much more and is a great version of the song.

California Promises - Jimmy's version is much more filled out than Steve Goodman's, like all of the other Goodman songs Jimmy's done.

L'Air de la Louisiane - Jesse's version is beautiful and so is Jimmy's. It's obvious who wrote it but if someone was to not hear the other it would be difficult to tell who wrote it.

Another Saturday Night - Jimmy tackles this like he owns it. Great version of this song.

Souvenirs - Beautiful ballad that certainly seems like Jimmy wrote.

Sunny Afternoon - This version is perfect on Fruitcakes and is totally Buffettised.

Pacing The Cage

You Call It Jogging - This song kills me everytime I listen to it.

Savannah Fare You Well

Trip Around The Sun

Whoop De Doo

Back To The Island - This has to end the list because it's the perfect Jimmy Buffett song that Jimmy Buffett never wrote.

Bubba didn't write Coast of Carolina?????????? I've got to pay more attention to these things ...

Of the things more from the era when I was reading the fine print, apparently more carefully,

Coast of Marseilles
and
Biloxi

and my new favorite is Nothing but a Breeze

I'd have to say "Banana Republics" by Steve Goodman. I like both versions, but I always thought it sounded like a JB song.

SchoolGirlHeart,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hadn't had a chance to look it up yet!

My faith in my own sentimentality is restored. I knew there was way too much emotion in that song for him not to have penned it himself. We love seeing that footage on the big screen and in the Wrigley DVD ... looks like Charleston Harbor to us, near Ft. Sumter ... a very beautiful and special place for me and my hubby too!
