Rude Salespeople

I stopped at Dollar General over the weekend. I have never been into a Dollar General, but I needed a few things I assumed they would have so I could avoid the circus @ Wal-Mart.
I get the items I need and proceed to the check out. The woman says nothing to me even though I said hello when I placed my items on the belt. OK.. maybe she didnt hear me.
She rings up my stuff and gives me the total. I pay and start collecting my bags off off a circular bagger type thing (like Walmart has). I get all but one and it seems stuck... so I pulled on it... and the cashier says... Hey, I'm bagging here. I said, oh, I am sorry, but can I get my last bag? She says, Come over and get it (I couldnt reach from where I was standing). It was right next to her.
Maybe it was her tone....or her I dont give a s*** attitude... but I said to her...(as I was recovering my last bag... How long does it take you to earn $21.24? (the amt I spent). She looked at me and said... what? I dont know.... I said... I would bet at least 2.5 hours. She kinda looked at me like I had a screw loose. I said, Would you do me a favor an be nice to every customer you check out for the next 2.5 hrs? I didnt let her answer and just said... Thank you... and Have a happy Holiday.
She totally didnt get it. But the man standing in line behind me did. And maybe she'll tell someone about this crazy lady and they will explain it to her... but it sure made me feel better.
Have any rude salespeople storries so far this holiday season?

I went to Nordstrom yesterday and the salespeople were very friendly and helpful. I guess you get what you pay for.

Had a similar experience with rude behavior at the Dollar General close by work.
The lights were on, the door opened, posted hours showed they were open.
Lady from the back comes out with a ten inch Marlboro dangling from her mouth screaming, "We're closed damn it!! Stupid shoppers."
Oh yeah, I'll be back there real soon.

What did you expect at a dollar store? (Aren't they the ones that make everyone an 'assistant manager' so they don't have to pay overtime?) And I doubt she even makes 8.50$ an hour (your 2.5 hours)....most of minimum wage at best. Working at one of these places is a job of last resort for most folks.....you just don't go into one (when it can't be avoided) expecting great customer service.

Its isnt a dollar store. Its just called Dollar General. Its like a Woolworths. (if there are still around)
And quite frankly... I do not expect to be chastized by a cashier for asking for my bag....whether I spend $20 or $2000.

I expect the same service wherever I go.
Yes, you tend to get better service from a higher end store but that still doesn't make it right to be rude.

You should've gone straight to customer service and gotten your money back.

It's entirely possible that the previous three customers acted like the northbound end of a southbound horse, if you know what I mean, and the individual(s) in question hadn't gotten their cheery mojo back yet.
And being stuck in a $6-7/hour job bagging stuff isn't exactly a huge morale booster in the best of times.
While those may be explanations for this sort of behavior, I'll readily agree it ain't an excuse. Being nice to people may not make them nicer...but being rude to them almost certainly won't.

I'm guessing at a Dollar General, she was customer service!

I don't care if you are getting paid .80 cents/hour, 8.00/hour or 80.00/hour....or if you are working for free.....basic human decency should teach you not to be rude to another person....

I blame welfare reform for this problem. In the good old days the lazy rude people that couldn't get a job just stayed at home and collected their food stamps and monthly check. Or take another view, Imagine how bad the person they beat out for the job just have been.

In our shop we are all "working for free" (of course the items for sale are ones we made) but we try to be out of the ordinary helpful. Of course there are customers (like me sometimes) who just want to be left alone. So you find a happy medium.
There is no excuse for her not getting your bag. And no excuse whatsoever for a clerk in any store to be rude to customers.

I second that amen
And as a former salesman please remember it's a two way street. I can't tell you how many rude customers that would try to run all over me, thinking "The customer is always right" rule lets you do what ever you want. Let's ALL treat each other with respect, weither you make $8 or $80 an hour
OR weither you spend $8 or $80.
Remember, RESPECT is a 2 way street

In my younger days when I had a very bad temper and very little patience, a customer once told me "The customer is always right." I told her "Most of the time the customers don't know what the hell they're talking about." And I didn't get fired.
