Cyberstalking

Post by ph4ever »

It's not anything new but something we don't think can happen to us, but it sometimes does.

I have a friend from another board dealing with this issue right now so I thought I'd post some informative links.

I've learned there are 3 types of stalkers - Simple obsessional stalkers, delusional stalkers and vengeful stalkers. Several states have laws directed towards Internet stalking. If you or anyone you know even thinks they are being stalked here's some sites to direct them to:

Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I was stalked by an ex-boyfriend in college, it was life-disrupting. VERY.
Stalking puts the victim in prison, with no bars. There should be strict laws in EVERY state against it. Better to be safe than sorry, it's kinda like being assaulted in your soul.

A few years ago, I participated in another (non-PH) board. It was far less active than BN, and people came and went, so we didn't think much of it when we stopped hearing from a particular woman. Figured she just moved on, as people do. Nearly a year later, we found out that she had been murdered. As far as I know, the murder is still unsolved, but based on computer forensics, the police were able to establish that she was being stalked online. The stalker was a suspect in her murder, but they were unable to discover who he or she was....

wow, that's pretty crazy.

The dangerous thing right now is Myspace. It's NOT dangerous if you are careful and don't do stupid stuff. Make the profile private. ADD only your FRIENDS!!

Stalking is VERY scary. i think that's one of the worst things imaginable. I have an ex I"m scared of. Luckily, I have a way of knowing where he is and as long as he's FAR away from me, I'm good. :)
