Hey All,

Just found out today that work is sending me to Indianapolis 2/16- 2/20 to handle an Expo going on at the RCA Dome. I'll be working but I should have some free time. I'll be staying at one of the hotels by the RCA Dome so if anyone in that area has any suggestions on what I can do there let me know. Thanks!

Jerry

Go to CIP. There's a bunch of them near Indy.
Visit with Alison (Quiet & Shy). She's one of the all-time great BNers!

Yeah I figured one night for srue at CIP. I'll have two other colleagues with me too so I guess I'll see what they want to do also. There also appears to be a Howl at the Moon there which I love those places...

Well, being an Indy native, maybe I can help a bit.

The CIP's are about 20 minutes either direction. I would suggest the one on the south side of town, however, Alison is close to the one on the north side and that one is good too. I just prefer the one on the southside (At this point, I'd take any....I haven't been to CIP since late August!).

Up until early September, I worked downtown and there is alot to do. I've never been to Howl at the Moon, but I heard that it was a great time. There are all kinds of great restaurants/microbreweries closer to the circle downtown (a few blocks from where you will be).

What kinds of things do you think you would like to do? What type of restaurants/bars are you looking for? If you can give me an idea, I can be a little more specific on my suggestions. Please feel free to PM me if you'd like! :)

Thanks for the advice PTG. Since I will be with two other collagues I'm not sure if we'll splinter off after work hours or stay together so I guess I'm nto sure what I/we will do. CIP would be alogical choice of course. I guess one wuestion would be is the area where the RCA Dome is, is it a busy place at night or will I have to travel for a cool bar to grab a beer in?

I would say you would travel maybe a few blocks at the most. If you like blues, the Slippery Noodle Inn is near the dome. There's all sorts of bars downtown now. Just depends on what type of atmosphere youa re looking for but something I think, for everyone, just within blocks of where you will be. :)

The new Conrad Hilton hotel in downtown Indy is beautiful and like most of the downtown hotels connects by tunnel to the mall, bars and the RCA Dome.

We stayed at the Hyatt which was cheaper but not nearly as nice as the Conrad. It was very nice, though.

Indy is a cool town. you'll have a great time.

Ultimately I/We will stay at whatever hotel we can take a comp room at but the Conrad is one of the ones we have rooms contracted with so we'll see...Thanks! :)

The Conrad opened about a year ago. It is a 5 star hotel I believe and it is beautiful! I've had lunch there once courtesy of my old company. There is a Rolls Royce at your disposal if you are a guest (so I've heard). It is a beautiful hotel and pretty close to everything that is cool! :)

Two places you may want to check out are MacNivens Restaurant and Bar, and The Claddagh Irish Pub. MacNivens is on Mass Ave, and features around 100 different beers as well as traditional Scottish cuisine. If you've ever wanted to try Haggis, this is the place. Be sure to try the Scotch Eggs as well. The Claddagh is on Meridian St, near several other drinking establishments, and here you can find pints of Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, and a few house brews, although they don't brew on site. The food here is great as well, with my fave being the Paddy Mac and Slaw, with a slice of Baileys cheesecake for dessert. Both places also offer the usual brews as well. As mentioned earlier, the Slippery Noodle is a great Blues Bar, and the oldest bar in Indy. Have a great visit!

The Claddagh is about as Irish as Buca de Beppo is Italian. MacNivens is cool, it's a bit of a hike from the Dome area, but should only be a $5 cab ride (downtown cabs are usually flat rate on weekends). The Rathskellar is good too- it's the other still-single yuppie bar. German, obviously- try the Cordon Bleu chicken fingers, they're yummy. They're both on Mass Ave.

Also, YATS! is great- noveau Cajun/Creole food, again on Mass. It has pretty limited hours.

Also, Bosophorus on East (I think- it's not within walking distance) is phenomenal Turkish food.

And just so you're aware- the Ugly Monkey has earned the name. It's the skankiest of the downtown bars- the odds are good, but the goods are odd.

I get there "late in the evening" on 2/15 and leave "late in the evening" on 2/19. I was just listening to that Paul simon song so I guess it's in my head....
