he (Darth Vader) certainly didn't get what he bargained for when he made his "deal with the devil" did he?

With that being said, you may want to preview the final in the series (the last of the prequels. It may be a little much for an 8 yo.
Actually, I concur...you've gotta know your kid and how into Star Wars s/he is.
But the immolation scene in Revenge of the Sith is the reason the film earned a PG-13 rating.
Even if you've watched the films 4-6, then 1-3, you should prepare your kid for this scene, and discuss it with them afterwards.
It's sad that Vader's arrogance and greed cost him everything, but that's part of the lesson of the films.

That scene is overrated. Kids see worse sh*t than that on their video games.

Do the kid a favor and teach him how to open a gym locker from the inside. He keeps this Star Wars thing up, and that's where he's gonna spend the majority of his high school years.

At this point, I don't plan on letting them watch it. IMO it is the only prequel worth watching.

might as well get him all black outfits, and then resign yourself to their living in your basement until they are 50...

That's a somewhat negative point of view R2....
There are some excellent lessons in Star Wars, not the least of which is that you can learn compassion from your children.

I always thought of Star Wars as a finished piece of work, with the others added on. Don't get me wrong I love the movies I just don't get why so much drama had to be added to the back story.
I once had a Lit teacher that claimed that any good story
from a Triligy should stand on it's own and be made better
with the other two..
