Back in the days of Morpheus, Kazaa and Napster, putting in Jimmy Buffett did tend to bring up that damn Garth Brooks song. Why that would be was always a mystery to me until I started to notice that you could tinker with the inner details of what there was. I remember downloading some song thinking it was someone and it was actually someone else's band with their own song under a popular artist/band's song title!
To which I deleted so I guess their trick didn't work good enough.

On the whole teleprompter thing...I saw Don Henley live this summer and had seats above and to the side of the stage. (The catbird seats if you're a baseball fan) He didn't look at it much, but there was a 19" flat screen monitor with the words rolling right in front of his speakerstand. I was very surprised.
I guess the combination of being almost 60, drugs, and who knows what else has hurt the brain cells enough that it's needed...even if it's a backup. I'll see if I can get a camera photo of it at the Fishsticks show in Aspen next weekend.
Really love this board. I've read it for a while...just started posting. Thanks for all the insights and thoughts....

be careful with the camera.... Mal/buffettbride posted that last year there was a true zero tolerance for cameras at the Aspen show....buffett81611 wrote:On the whole teleprompter thing...I saw Don Henley live this summer and had seats above and to the side of the stage. I've got no problem with it except he said he'd give it up if he ever had to use a teleprompter. Plus, he's really screwed up some songs by totally forgetting how the song goes and the words, some of these flubs have even made it onto official releases when they should have stay on the cutting room floor.Dezdmona wrote:Who care's if he cheats on the words. *shrug*
I have noticed a shift towards more Jimmy stuff. Why not it is his station. I have been wondering to myself though, could it have something to do with finances and royality payments? The regular programming disappeared when the advertising disappeared (other than feets at five). The bootlegs disappeared when RM went on Sirius. Could it be that now that the Pirate radio station has to behave like a business finances are effecting the programming?

Well, given that he plays mostly the same places every year...that's only a limited number of alternate lines to figure out, and he's done each of those quite a few times by now.krusin1 wrote:I'm with you. Knowing that he switches up Volcano the most often when playing live, I (seriously) wonder how he gets the "customized" lines correct for each venue.
(Writes 'em on a post-it and tapes it to the guitar???)
I cover Volcano in my shows, also customize that line, and after doing it a couple of dozen times, for some reason it becomes easier to ad lib it, even if I *haven't* pre-rehearsed it and worked it out. For Jimmy, who knows the song way better than I, it must become even easier.

There are also quite a few people who think that "American Dream" (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) was also a Buffett song.FINSUPinIdaho wrote:I have seen the pina colada song listed under Buffett songs when I was looking for guitar chords-I guess any kind of drinking/tropical song must be a Buffett song

"bad wiring", nah. "kitchen grease fire", nope... Just a stupid human trick trying to emulate Peter Boyle after a bottle of tequila and three straws..chippewa wrote:So that's how the place burned down....RinglingRingling wrote:probably... tho I only heard about one incident of a "thumb-lighting", in St. Bart's, back in 1982...chippewa wrote:off topic, yet topical...RinglingRingling wrote:evidently the old guy can't handle sudden bursts of light..SchoolGirlHeart wrote:be careful with the camera.... As far as JB and the teleprompter go, as long as it doesn't become a crutch to where it interferes with the quality of his performance, I have no problem with it. The number of senior moments have definately gone down since it was added to the stage.
JB may be a "shameless performer" but he's clearly a very proud guy who wants to put on a quality show. If it takes a bit more technology for that to happen, so be it.
