Too many "live" songs on RM?

Here you can discuss any Buffett related topic.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that there was someone complaining that there wasn't ENOUGH Buffett on RM and they didn't want to hear other artists.

Complaints run in cycles. RM was the awesomemost before Sirius. It is still good. I am glad it exists. too much buffett/not enough? i don't know. Next weeks thread will be "they play too much new buffett and not enough old"

I'm with you. I love the well-rehearsed ad-libs. :D

Knowing that he switches up Volcano the most often when playing live, I (seriously) wonder how he gets the "customized" lines correct for each venue.

(Writes 'em on a post-it and tapes it to the guitar???) [smilie=think.gif]
Well, given that he plays mostly the same places every year...that's only a limited number of alternate lines to figure out, and he's done each of those quite a few times by now.

I cover Volcano in my shows, also customize that line, and after doing it a couple of dozen times, for some reason it becomes easier to ad lib it, even if I *haven't* pre-rehearsed it and worked it out. For Jimmy, who knows the song way better than I, it must become even easier.

Loren
Seriously?? That's extremely cool.

As for Jimmy and a teleprompter... I'm glad that's one promised he DIDN'T keep.... probably added a few years of tours to his career.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less if he uses a teleprompter, as long as he keeps playing. :D

Yep. Although if he would learn to read lips, all he would need to do is look out into the crowd.

Ain't that the truth! Like the man said though, "It's not nice to beat Jimmy to the words of his own song!" :D

Still, I'm always secretly pleased with myself when Jimmy starts the "customized" part of Volcano and I come up with the ending before he gets there. I suppose it's the little things that mean the most.

Well, I will through in my 2 cents.

I love the live songs on RM, it really adds some freshness to JB music that I don’t get to hear when I play his songs on my iPod. I just wish that every other live song they played wasn’t from Fenway. It seems like that is all they play. I love when we get songs from shows that aren’t released, those are the best. From what I understand, props to Myles for doing this.

I am in the minority, I think the new Sirius RM format is better then the pre-Sirius format.

And Teleprompters are for sissies, lol. I don’t think you will ever see JB with one.

Like on the version of Steve Goodman's This Hotel Room from Live In Las Vegas when he pretty much butchers the entire lyrics to it?

he butchers just about all songs (lyric rememberance wise that is)
My favorite song "Wino and I know" from Mville cafe last summer was a true butcher job-and it is on RM a lot...

Ad-libbing is fine but when he can't even remember the lyrics I feel like those tracks would be better left on the cutting room floor. The "senior moments" and "CRS" jokes are only funny for so long. If he has to use a teleprompter to help remember lyrics I have no problem with it whatsoever. It sure beats him forgetting them totally on occasion.

I say the more live cuts, the better. But then, I listen to RM a lot...
have to agree with the folks who say too many of the SAME live songs.
JB's got nearly his entire career recorded. Let's whip out some more of the ballads, and the songs that only get played ever few years. Just once in awhile. Pretty please...

I have to agree with you Jim, the sonic quality on the live stuff is terrible compared to the studio versions. Many of the older(and some newer) soundboard recordings omit much of the CRB, to the point that Jimmy seems to be shouting out the songs over the audience noise. The fact that there are alot of live show songs may also be due to the DJ's playing requests for listeners trying relive past concert experiences.
