Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that there was someone complaining that there wasn't ENOUGH Buffett on RM and they didn't want to hear other artists.Skibo wrote:I have noticed a shift towards more Jimmy stuff. Could it be that now that the Pirate radio station has to behave like a business finances are effecting the programming?
Too many "live" songs on RM?

who sounds incredibly like Buffett if you are drinking and your thumb is on fire...Tiki Torches wrote:That song was actually written by Rodney Crowell.TropicalTroubador wrote:There are also quite a few people who think that "American Dream" (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) was also a Buffett song.

Complaints run in cycles. RM was the awesomemost before Sirius. It is still good. I am glad it exists. too much buffett/not enough? i don't know. Next weeks thread will be "they play too much new buffett and not enough old"Soraya wrote:Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that there was someone complaining that there wasn't ENOUGH Buffett on RM and they didn't want to hear other artists.Skibo wrote:I have noticed a shift towards more Jimmy stuff. Seriously?? That's extremely cool.TropicalTroubador wrote:Well, given that he plays mostly the same places every year...that's only a limited number of alternate lines to figure out, and he's done each of those quite a few times by now.krusin1 wrote:I'm with you. Knowing that he switches up Volcano the most often when playing live, I (seriously) wonder how he gets the "customized" lines correct for each venue.
(Writes 'em on a post-it and tapes it to the guitar???)
I cover Volcano in my shows, also customize that line, and after doing it a couple of dozen times, for some reason it becomes easier to ad lib it, even if I *haven't* pre-rehearsed it and worked it out. For Jimmy, who knows the song way better than I, it must become even easier.

As for Jimmy and a teleprompter... I'm glad that's one promised he DIDN'T keep.... probably added a few years of tours to his career.
Quite frankly, I couldn't care less if he uses a teleprompter, as long as he keeps playing.

Ain't that the truth! Like the man said though, "It's not nice to beat Jimmy to the words of his own song!"chippewa wrote:Yep. Still, I'm always secretly pleased with myself when Jimmy starts the "customized" part of Volcano and I come up with the ending before he gets there. I suppose it's the little things that mean the most.

he said in Columbus the last time he never has to use a teleprompter because the fans never fail to help him out if he forgets the words.krusin1 wrote:Ain't that the truth! And since he's got the teleprompter now, I guess he'll never be back....RinglingRingling wrote:he said in Columbus the last time he never has to use a teleprompter because the fans never fail to help him out if he forgets the words.krusin1 wrote:Ain't that the truth! Well, I will through in my 2 cents.
I love the live songs on RM, it really adds some freshness to JB music that I don’t get to hear when I play his songs on my iPod. I just wish that every other live song they played wasn’t from Fenway. It seems like that is all they play. I love when we get songs from shows that aren’t released, those are the best. From what I understand, props to Myles for doing this.
I am in the minority, I think the new Sirius RM format is better then the pre-Sirius format.
And Teleprompters are for sissies, lol. I don’t think you will ever see JB with one.

Ad-libbing is fine but when he can't even remember the lyrics I feel like those tracks would be better left on the cutting room floor. The "senior moments" and "CRS" jokes are only funny for so long. If he has to use a teleprompter to help remember lyrics I have no problem with it whatsoever. It sure beats him forgetting them totally on occasion.
I say the more live cuts, the better. But then, I listen to RM a lot...
have to agree with the folks who say too many of the SAME live songs.
JB's got nearly his entire career recorded. Let's whip out some more of the ballads, and the songs that only get played ever few years. Just once in awhile. Pretty please...

I have to agree with you Jim, the sonic quality on the live stuff is terrible compared to the studio versions. Many of the older(and some newer) soundboard recordings omit much of the CRB, to the point that Jimmy seems to be shouting out the songs over the audience noise. The fact that there are alot of live show songs may also be due to the DJ's playing requests for listeners trying relive past concert experiences.FINSUPinIdaho wrote:The only non-live songs during the Buffett Buffet are either :cringe: the xmas stuff or the new stuff. 2 songs in total yesterday
