They don't work on me.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

They gave me something called Hycodan about 3 yrs ago...It's prescription only..and comes in a liquid or pill form...

It's just hydrocodone..Strong narcotic....stopped the cough, and allowed me to sleep, finally....

I forgot about the Mucinex.. thanks. :) And no, he's not a 'child'.. ;) He says the tickle isn't where you can get to it by swallowing.. :-? I'll try the Benedryl, too. :)

I've got the same problem going on myself right now.....the tickle in my throat. It is maddening! I do take cough syrup, but really, they haven't seemed to help me a ton. Sucking on a cough drop seems to help me more.

I also run a humidifier at night in my room and that really seems to help witht he dryness/tickle in my throat while I sleep. So he might want to try that if he's not already.

I feel his pain..... :-?

I really don't recommend giving this to your son :P but when I'm under the weather, cough, soar throat, flu like symptoms, I drink B&B. Goes down smooth, warms up the body, and after enough of them helps you sleep. :D

the problem I have is the store stuff doesn't work and when it's the perscribed stuff it either makes me sleepy or gittery... so I only take it when I absolutely can't get anything else to work

I don't mind cough syrup, but the only kind that DOES seem to work is the prescription kind w/ codeine--and it's also great for not waking up hacking in the middle of the night. When I think of taking that THICK syrup-y stuff---YUK.

Penny:
One of my boys has viral induced asthma (he gets a cold and gets asthma symptoms). Our doc suggested DELSYM-- it's in an orange box at the drug store. It is ONLY cough medicine so you're not getting other stuff you don't need with it. ALSO it's 12 hour medicine so you're not hacking up a lung in three hours. The best part is that it has an orange flavor that is NOT BAD AT ALL. If the keets fight me, I use the M&M bribe... :D hope this helps!

we've used the same stuff here with my young kids and me.

I'm having problems breathing today...and through last night....so thanks for the reminder about Mucinex, I may try some today. I tried Clariten (sp?) last time for my congestion, but I cant swear that it worked well for me.

My kids will take cough medicine... they don't like it, but do manage it.

When I have a bad cough, I've got to have something to get rest at night until it passes.

our doc suggested that we have an inhaler handy for stuff like that. had a bad URI in the fall and had to get an albuterol treatment in the office. felt jittery but I sure did pink up fast!

I rarely take medicines. I'm one of those crazies that believes what doesn't kill you will make you stronger. I don't even have aspirin or Tylenol in the house. I will take some occasional Nyquil when I have a bad sinus cold.

Isn't Jager basically Robitussen?

I don't have issues with Jager or cough medicine. I've used enough the last week (of cough medicine, not Jager) to sedate a third-world country.

This reminds me that a year ago or so, my cousin was sick and started taking DayQuil which led to a little DayQuil habit she had to kick!

LOL

Along with it comes a nasty cough. But he HATES cough medicine. Totally gags at the thought of taking it. So does a friend/co-worker of mine.

Tastes like wine to me!

The first time I tasted wine (communion in a Lutheran church, where they don't use grapejuice), I thought, "This tastes like cough medicine."

Son hates it and Nyquil, too, but I MAKE him take it if he needs it. He has to have a cup of water handy to wash the taste out of his mouth.
umm.. Pastor Inqvist said to tell you "it's cheaper to get cough medicine than wine at the Piggly Wiggly and most people never notice the difference" :D

For those 'tickly' coughs, I'll make a cup of Lemon Berry Zinger, with honey and squeeze some fresh lemon in it...
