just reading the Indianapolis Star this morning... apparently Verizon Wireless Music Center (a Buffett tradition since who knows when) is up for sale!! they are looking to sell to anyone, without a requirement of it staying an ampitheater. this is tough news to swallow for me, what about you guys??

it was so convenient to party with Buffett just 5 miles from my house!!

obviously i'm lucky to have this in my backyard, but i'm sure this would hurt Buffett fans from around the region. i'm starting a collection now to build a new venue for Buffett in a nearby cornfield, who's with me?? :D

This is NOT the kind of news I like to wake up to! I can only hope that if nobody buys it by concert season they will go ahead and book shows. Even if they decide to build a new venue elsewhere in the state, that would take at least a year I'd think. It's hard enough to get tix for Cinci and Tweeter Center, I don't know of any other comparable venue nearby. Guess it might be time to start planning vacations around shows in other states

My mom just told me that, I was shocked!

But I gotta say- the venue itself sucks, maybe they'll build a better one.

And isn't this just part of the Clear Channel selloff?

UPDATE! According to the local WRTV news page, Verizon is committed to the 2007 concert season regardless of any sale. So at least we should be Ok this year. However, this is not part of any corporate sell off, they also emphasized that they will sell to the highest bidder, whatever their intentions for the property are. So far no mention of any plans for a new venue have been mentioned. To be honest, the more I think about it the more I believe this may be for the best. With the exploding real estate market in that area and all the new sub-divisions popping up, it's only a matter of time before noise and traffic complaints/lawsuits become such a nuisance that selling becomes preferable to spending millions on noise abatement projects. I can't believe how desolate that area was back when it was built. Hmmm, maybe I should look at this as an opportunity to put the money I spend on tix and travel to shows on a Sirius radio subscription

Here's today's follow-up article. It looks as though the Indy venue won't be the only one to go...

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a ... /612190409

Live Nation said last month it planned to sell some of the music centers it owns in larger markets where the "value of the real estate is greater than the value to us as a music venue."

This refers to the Live Nation SEC filing (Nov 14, 2006):

As part of our continuing plan to focus our operations in the top markets globally, as well as to appropriately maximize the value of our real estate portfolio, we plan to pursue the divestiture of a small number of venues.

For business continuity purposes while buyers are being sought for these venues, we will not identify the specific venues.

And Live Nation now owns the vast majority of amphitheater venues (40+).

"Mr. Smith? You say you want to bring a lawsuit against an outdoor amphitheatre?"
"Yes your honour. They are loud and violate my right to privacy and use of my property."
"You do understand the purpose of an 'amphitheatre', much less an 'outdoor amphitheatre'?"
"umm.. I guess"
"When did you purchase your property?"
"2005"
"and was the amphitheatre already there when you purchased your property?"
"umm.. I guess."
"and did the venue ever tell you it would be be playing nothing but Barry Manilow, Moody Blues, and Montovani shows?"
"ummm. no."
"so you are saying that you bought a home, near a music venue, knowing there was one there, and that from time to time during the summer months especially, there would be concerts?"
"ummm... I guess"
"and at anytime did the developer coerce you thru threats of violence or actual violence?"
"I don't understand, your honour"
"when you went to sign the paperwork for the home and the property, did anyone put a gun to your head, threaten your childrens' health, or infer that if you did not sign, there would be grave consequences in the future?"
"ummm... no. I'd remember that"
"well, Mr. Smith. Be happy that the law here in the Hoosier State does not allow me to strike you about the head, neck, and shoulders with my gavel until I get bored for wasting the court's time."

Went to Indy for the 1st time this year.

We paid for premier parking but got misrouted to general parking. The people near us were super, super friendly and very generous with food and beer handouts (though we were fine on beer supplies  )

We found out that we were in the wrong lot and I FREAKED OUT based on how bad I heard it was to get out of the general lot. We managed to squeeze into the premier lot at about 5 pm.

The premier tailgaters were not as fun. Not by a long shot.

Instead of friendly folks happy to talk to strangers, we encountered lots of yuppies who were not friendly. No "Hey, come on over!" as we'd frequently heard in the general lot.

The worst thing about Indy was the WEASEL undercover cop dressed in a Hawaiin shirt sneaking up to underage kids writing tickets. He was so bad that he ticketed a mom who was letting her 19 year old daughter drink a Corona. One of the least PHun moments of a Jimmy show I'd ever encountered. As my fiancee said so that he could hear, "That is one guy who likely never got laid in high school or college"

Concessions at Indy were kind of a drag too - long lines, not many choices.

Still a great show, but certainly no Cinci 2006!

That happened to a friend's daughter + friends in Pittsburgh this year also. Wonder if that's something they just started? I've never heard of it happening before. (They-the cops- were dressed in Buffett gear also and were "flirting" saying... hey, what are you drinking?)

Hey...maybe since Jimmy has been making Noblesville a tour stop for so long he would buy it! Well...it was a good thought even though not a logical one.
