I think the reason Don't Stop the Carnival stands out so much is that it is not what one would think of as a proper Jimmy Buffett album, that's because it is not. That doesn't make it a bad album by any stretch but it's perhaps the most risky project he's ever taken on, I just wish he and Herman Wouk had been more successful with it.

I agree with KK. School Boy Heart is probably one of the better songs on the album.

Happily Ever After

Really? Please elaborate...

after this album he stopped using the coral reefer band as much in terms of songwriting and cowriting.he began to draw more heavily on cover songs and duets.this is the last album where jimmy wrote on everysong with the exception of the musical album dont stop the carnival.beach house, farside, license to chill, and take the weather all have a huge list of cover songs and less writing input from the band.

PLEASE NOTICE....HE DID NOT WRITE ALL THE SONGS ON BANANA WIND!!!

It's only been the last 2 albums that he started relying heavily on other people's songs. Otherwise, it has been a consistant through his career to work with other great artists. Go back to the first 2 albums, he co-wrote about half of those songs. DSTC is the only album he wrote completely by himself.

yes your right about the last 2 albums and the fact that jimmy has always done covers.my point is that he has changed his approach to the way he makes albums. its not that he is working with other writers lately, its that he is just paying for songs that have already been written.im not bashing him at all, i love the new album.but when there is so much creativity in within his band he surely doesnt need to pay for others songs. and i have read on this forum that dont stop the carnival was very much written by ralph mcdonald and songs like last man standing, tonight i just need my guitar, someday i will, coast of carolina, etc. were basically written by mac and jimmy just changed a line or two in order to buffettize them.

Perhaps but it's also worth noting that Treetop Flyer is a hidden track.

Someday I Will was co-written by Matt Betton, not Mac

Just because you read it here doesn't make it so. I can't imagine Ralph, Mac, or any other of Jimmy's co-writers making public statements about the relative writing contributions in any song. Besides being unprofessional, it'd be just plain stupid on their part.....

If Buffett's going to cover the work of outside writers I'd much rather see him do that than cover stuff from fellow band members, especially if that material isn't up to par.

i never said it was true.but i do recall an interview with ralph stating that he had a huge part in carnival.and from what i understand the songs are pretty much done when jimmy recieves them from betton.tonight i just need my guitar jimmy asked mac to come up with after farside was done.hey im a fan and love it all this is just discussion.

O2CTL?

The best song on BW? I'd have to go with...Jamaica Mistaica. I'm thinking more in terms of what one song could you pick from this LP as well as others that would give you a good idea of what the album sums up.

How about the worst song? Cultural Infidel!
