Temporary living arrangements - LAX
Does any one have experience with extended stay or temporary living arrangements? My wife has to go to LA for two months and we are trying to find her a somewhat reasonable place to live.
I've booked a room at an Extended Stay hotel, but there has to be a better way to do it? Short term apartment or something similar for business travelers.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

At any given time I have 50-100 contract workers on thre road in any given city... we find for several month contracts that you can find apts who will rent an apt for as little as 3-7 months. But you are responsible for electric, water, etc... some are furnished.
There are corporate firms who specialize in finding temporaary housing,...but they are very expensive.
For 2 months your best bet is..
Homewood Suites
Residence Inn
Extended Stay America
Comfort Suites
something like that....
or hotels.... you can get the Dir of Sales or Manager on the phone and discuss a suitable rate... sometimes its better than longer stay competitors.

I peek every once in a while to find good deals on weekends in the mountains during off-season.land_shark3 wrote:Never heard of that website, but I will certainly check it out.buffettbride wrote:maybe you could find something on VRBO.com?
You might call a theatre company in LA or something. We have a friend-of-a-friend who performed in Phantom of the Opera's touring company. They were in Denver for 3 months and subletted an apartment here.

I have a room reserved at the Extended Stay, just in case nothing else comes up. I will touch base with the Sales Manager to see if I can get better rate. Right now, it is around $5k before taxes.ToplessRideFL wrote:For 2 months your best bet is..

i needed a place for about 6 weeks when i moved back to texas. it was A LOT cheaper for me to rent an apartment for that time than stay in an extended stay hotel kind of thing....
many big apartment companies have coporate rentals... just have to dig for them.. apartments.com is a good place to start

Try Oakwood.com - I know that they do corporate short-term leases and there is one pretty close to where I live
also depends where in LA she needs to be.

I have stayed at a couple Extended Stay Americas. If there is an Extended Stay Deluxe (same company, they used to call it Studio Plus) I would book that over the ESA. At least at that time was not that much more and it is a little nicer, not sure of they have upped the prices since the rebranding. The majority of these type of long term lodgings are nice and in good locations, but to be on the safe side call the business number of the local police department and ask if they get any calls etc.
The past few times I have to to Orlando I have stayed at the ESA and the deluxe when it was known as Studio Plus on Westwood. I have recommended it quite a few people. I think for the 10 days we stayed the Deluxe was only like $50 more then the regular ESA.
You might even want to contact the Better Business Bureau and see what they recommend for the area.

Let me rephrase the question.land_shark3 wrote:Does any one have experience with extended stay or temporary living arrangements? My wife has to go to LA for two months and we are trying to find her a somewhat reasonable place to live.
Who lives near LA and will rent a room to LS3's wife for a fair price?
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

I actually think I have had some success on www.apartments.com. I still need to contact them regarding availability, but they have cheaper rates than what I've seen elsewhere.

Hey wait, you're in Marina Del Ray.... Don't you have another vacation coming up?purpleskye wrote:I would also try Craigslist.org under Temporary Housing/Subletting.
When I went on vacation I rented out my apt for a reasonable rate to someone for 2 months plus full use of my apt for under 1K per month.

My company is just finishing up a project in LA. Extended stays were the most reasonable for most. We also had a couple of people at residence inns which were higher. If you don't need to be next to LAX, Santa Ana Comfort Suites was ~ 70/night. It was clean and in a nice area. Stay away from long beach, (I spent too much time there). Anaheim is ok if you don't mind tourists.
One of our contractors joined a health club, rented a storage unit and slept in his vehicle. He pocketed most of his $135/day per diem.
We had another that met this nice (crazy) person at a bar and ended up living with her for 5 months for free. He also did very good with the per diem.
