evil horrible spider crickets
has anybody ever seen these. They are clearly the spawn of a mean spider and an evil cricket. They jump at you but look like spiders. I have them in my basement/crawl space and they try to come into my bathroom when it gets cold. Imagine running to the bathroom, quickly, sitting down to take care of things and this big spider/cricket comes crawling out from behind the bowl and starts jumping at you.
My cat loves to eat them and pull of their legs and leave them around for me. Sometimes he brings me smushed ones.
I looked online and they're called spider crickets, cave crickets or camel crickets.

OMG, never heard of them but my imagination is going wild and I may have nightmares!!!
On a semi-related note- has anyone seen King Crabs in an aquarium? They had them in Tokyo, they seriously look like something out of a horror movie. Somehow I'm picturing the spider crickets as not-orange versions of the same thing, only not 2 feet tall!!

Seems like earwigs are everywhere in the summer. A few intrepid individuals even make their way into the house. Centipedes can be a little unnerving when you turn on the basement light and a big hairy one scurries across the floor, but they don't bother me much otherwise. They're pretty handy for devouring other unwanted pests. I wonder if earwigs are on their menu?

I used to do plumbing work in the Union City. Guttenburg area of NJ. We'd be working in the basement under the Bodegas and there'd be these HUGE cockroaches. Mainly palmetto bugs, I think. Anyway, they would make a noise like a cricket. My boss would say they're not cockroaches, they're crickets. Ugly bugs.

Those things look absolutely horrendous! Michael, your picture isn't any better.......we only live like 25 miles from each other, and I hope those things don't find their way to Palatka.

We used to have these in our basement when I was in high school.
My older sister absolutely refused to go down to the big freezer in the basement. I had to be the fearless little brother and go in her place
I swear, those things could jump 4 feet staight up

Look at where I live. You can't fight the moisture here. I am picking up a tube of caulking and going to seal every open little crack in the bathroom. But when I take away his fun the cat will be so sad. Right now he's working on dismantling my tree.We did a little sealing work and tried to keep as much moisture out

Oh if only it were that easy. We actually had to use concrete sealant and paint the concrete walls. Good luck though!OceanCityGirl wrote:Look at where I live. You can't fight the moisture here.
