Why would it be? In anticipation of loss of Corona sponsorship? I disagree... I think prices went up just because they went up.... Supply and demand.... Buffett tickets weren't the only ones that went up last year.....

They tried to sell me that Land Shark Lager in Margaritaville Orlando last week. Ahh, good times. Now Its back to the daily grind.  I do hope that those damn prices go down, but seeing that these concerts are the #1 most demanded concert, i doubt it.

Why? Because they were testing to see if ticket prices could bear walking away from a national sponsorship. If that's not the case and JB wants to maintain the same profitability, I'd suspect we might see another significant price increase this year...probably disproportionately hitting the lawn since that's what sold out fastest last year.

I also think a factor in last year's increase was to take some of the $$s (and motivation) away from scalpers....

Could last year's ticket price increase have been purely supply and demand driven? Sure. But that big of an increase from Buffett (following $20 the year before) just struck me as having more to it...especially for a guy who's "not in it for the money" (but he still likes to "win" and $$s is how you keep score...I think he just wanted to protect his margin.)

We'll see if another national brand jumps in to pick up where Corona left off. I just don't see it being another beer with the launch of Landshark Lager (for the exact reasons given by Corona for their departure) or a hard liquor brand given Margaritaville tequila and rumors he's looking to label his own rum.

Howdy, Howdy from "The Islands"... Not around much anymore, but since John mentioned he found some PM's earlier.. well, I thought I might need to do some lurking.. happened to notice this... here's my 2 cents and bit of info...

We rolled out the Land Shark Lager last week... currently you can only get it at our Margaritaville Cafe here in Key West.. as well as Orlando and Vegas.. we are not selling it for "take home" due to liquor licenses, However the retail store at the Vegas location is licensed to distribute there, so for now.. that is the only place you can purchase a 6 pack to take home! Later this month, mid-Janurary, the LS Lager will be officially released for sale to the public.. but will only be found in Publix Supermarkets located in Florida! Further expanded distribution will follow.. you may check the website for updated markets!

As for the taste of the beer....

YES.. it does taste much better than Corona (more crisp) and does not have that skunky after-taste often found in Corona.. however, that skunk taste is often caused from exposure to sun and associated with the clear bottles.. Land Shark Lager is in a clear bottle.. so I'm not sure how it will eliminate the potential for this when it's on open market and more likely to be open to sun exposure! For now... it beats the hell out of Corona without question! Of course.. I stopped drinkin' Corona a couple years ago.. but this beer shockingly has merit. I would not insult this beer by even comparing it to Corona.. in fact, it's more like a Kalik!! Which is better all around!! We all know that his tequila line is only fit for a dumpster liver.. however, Anheiser-Busch seems to do his name and rep justice with this beer!

That is all....

yeah, thought that was funny when I asked it too... If he really did kick tickets up 33% last year to keep his margin solid without a sponsor, I don't feel so bad about not contributing to his birthday book. My 6 tickets this year probably kept him from starving..
Hey, I call 'em as I see 'em. Let's just hope the loss of the Corona sponsorship was factored in to last year's prices.... :-?
I hear what you are saying, I just think it was more of a "hey, I can get it, and I have a new apt. in NYC to pay for" kinda moment when the costs were set up last year.

Thanks for the report, Kev...I hope all's well in KW. Enjoy a bit of warm sunshine for us. :D

So, do you guys have banners promoting the new beer? Is there anything else being done (e.g. special discounts) to get people to try it? And how is it priced relative to Corona (or other beers) there?

I don't drink corona, I think it is just Bud from Mexico. Or as the Wife has said "Mexican Bud" I am getting a headache just saying bud. I think Sol is a much better beer.

So Corona is owned by a Northeastern company and by A-B as well. Ha ha - is it truly bottled in Mexico? Or does it just SAY that? Like Arizona tea - made in NY I think.

The Stones have had Bud paying for their stages etc...ever since the Steel Wheels tour and their ticket prices have just kept going up. And Mick always says without Bud pitching in it would cost a lot more.

I doubt Corona put out that much for the JB tours. In all the years I was attending shows when he was pushed by Corona I never once saw Corona sold at the beer joints - it was usually Miller Lite. I know they were all over the t-shirts, like the Jump Up Tour and earlier on. So I doubt the ticket prices will decrease if A-B jumps in for touring. If anything the prices will continue to go up because someone is always willing to pay. I'm not one of them anymore but whatever, one live record a year is fine with me.

On a different note - did anyone know that Dr Martens are now made in China, still cost the same and you can only get them in black and brown? No more different colored boots. What a shame.

I'm hoping that if AB sponsors Jimmy, he'll finally come back to Saint Louis. But, on the other hand, all the tickets will probably end up in the hands of AB employees.

Outside of some tabletop tents, some new LS Lager shirts they gave us to where and some hot Budweiser girls strolling through the cafe on occassion to hand out free bottles at tables... No, not really!

Discounts? Hell.. we dont even do happy hours! So no different here.. the day we start offering drink specials is the day you prolly know corporate finally took us over.. we are the last cafe thats not under their rule! THANK GOD!!!

Prices? Charge the same as an import in the bar $4.00 (i think it's import price, hell that's what I've been telling customers lol) As for on the open market... I dunno, it's not out there yet!
