Looking to get out of town?

Every now and then my wife and I talk about leaving Chicago and moving to another state. I know people relocate because of their jobs and to be closer to family but what about just starting over somewhere else?

I also live in the Midwest.

Living somewhere with mountain views seems like it would be much, much more interesting!

We're moving in the next year or two. I moved up here to be with Tom, with the agreement that we move in October of 2007. But I'm doing really well at work, so that date could get pushed back.

After living 50 years in the South, my brother just moved to Anchorage, Alaska, for the heck of it. Got a similar job at a VA Hospital to what he had in Charleston, S.C. He loves the new scenery, the moose on city sidewalks and the snow and cold!

I did the same thing in the mid-80s, moving to West Virginia to see some of that scenery Marnin Grita Guy posted above... It's exciting to live somewhere different than you've lived all your life!

Now I just like living where it's WARM!

Hubby and I talk about it every now and then. Probably wouldn't act on it until my parents and his grandparents have passed away. They would be bummed-major without the (great)grandkids around.

Don't really talk about where, but sometimes "east coast" places come up as well as Tucson and Oregon.

We did it 13 years ago and it's worked out well for everyone. We're now looking at moving OUT of California. The darn taxes and cost of living id really getting to us. The short list is Oregon, Idaho and Colorado. Don't think we could handle the humidity in the south, but a lot of people are leaving California and moving to the Carolina's. Supposed to be spectacular :D

I moved to Atlanta 6 years ago and took a new job. Big Mistake.

You are well-loved, no matter where you hang your hat. But if Atlanta doesn't feel like home, weigh anchor (in a few months) and try somewhere else.

If'n you need some coastline, Chesapeake country is nice. If you want a slower pace of life, try the Plains states. Need some drama in your scenery? The Rockies run from Montana to New Mexico. (Like sheep? try New Zealand...)

Your BN friends will find you (and care for you) anywhere you go.

Thanks :D

Key ingrediant = trout fishing, wildflowers, high mountain lakes and fall colors. SO you can see Colorado is a front runner

Actually, Colorado sounds good to me! I hadn't thought of that state and I might even be able to transfer there. I'm just worried cuz I've always lived (at the most) a hourish from the mountains, desert or ocean.

Must remember to look up openings in CO! Thanks Penny!

I love Florida..... and I love Tampa Bay.... but I would move further south on a minute's notice.... but we both have good jobs which after aged 40 are important to hang on to..... I would really like to move to the keys..or at least back to the beach....... but I dont see it happening. Dave would like us to live in our PC home forever... and that would be ok too.... Y'all know where the party is! :wench:
