He is not going to retire. Fingers Taylor said maybe when he's 65. I don't see that happening. He's still such a young man.
I think he will retire when he can no longer continue. The band will continue to get smaller (I think)...eventually down to the Beach Band--Ralph MacDonald, Robert Greenidge, Michael Utley, Mac McAnally...MAYBE Fingers will come back, who knows?
Then eventually it will be just Jimmy and Mac. That's what I think. Then just Jimmy.

I had knee surgery and took a few days off, but I am not retiring.

Yep. And I love to see him living an upscale livestyle, too. Not only has he earned it, but those planes, boats and condos have expensive upkeep. 30 or so concert dates a year can pay a lot of bills.

My husband works at the Goodyear plant that makes those !!!
In fact, while the hourly workers
were on strike, he had to go back to tirebuilding those and being over 50, it nearly killed his feet and ankles (you stand up all day) !!!!!
And he's ready to retire (the hubby, not Jimmy !!)

Seeing that Jimmy takes it way easier than The Stones...I use them as a good line on how long one can go since most of them are older than Jimmy by a couple or few years. Jimmy's got it made in the shade for at least another 15 years. Maybe two or three more records. But I bet he calls it when he approches 70. He's gotta take a break at some point eh? And hopefully he'll release some unreleased material - live shows from the 70s and 80s and unreleased studio tracks!
And maybe a 4 disc greatest hit(s) Songs You Know From The Telepromter.

Why are people so willing to think Buffett is going to give up the ghost when Willie Nelson, Dylan, the Stones, the Who and lots of other musical acts are still touring and releasing albums?

I always thought that with his MCA tenure over he would have gone bonkers recording new records but he only did two with Island, which I thought was a perfect fit, especially with their logo, one for Mailboat before the two with RCA. So if he really does do a new record this year that would be great. That would be 4 studio records with the Mailboat logo on them.
Ever since he did form Marg Records it seems he's gotten more mileage out of each record (on the charts anyway).
I think as long as the Stones keep going (who, ha ha, unlike The Who never stopped) we'll all have an idea when it's Jimmy's time to stop. Can't nag JB about 'will this be the last time'. Maybe his last tour will be the Migration Sail Down To Martinique Tour.
