In a word (or five): a well-deserved, over-due binge

He worked hard all year just wanted a few weeks alone
But his old lady's into modeling,
She can't stay away from the phone
Besides she bitches about the mosquitoes
She says "Down there there is nothing to do"
Her goddamn phone never stops ringing
He'll try the service in a day maybe two

Well, he's on his third drink before the
wheels of the plane leave the ground
Making points with the stewardess
climbing over Long Island Sound
She's also spending some time on the island
Too much city madness gives her the blues
They make a date to go dancing and dining
Seems neither has that much to lose

Chorus
The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
My thoughts aren't too clear but don't run away
My girlfiend's a bore, my job is too dutiful
Hell, nobody's perfect would you like to play
I feel together today

Well now that was just the start of
a well-deserved over due binge
Meanwhile back in the city certain
people are starting to cringe
His lawyers are calling his parents
His girlfriend doesn't know what to think
His partners are studing their options
He's just singing and ordering drinks

Chorus
The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
The skies are too clear life's easy today
The beer is too cold, the daquiri's too fruitiful
There's no place like home when it's this far away
I don't care what they say

He's going back to New York pack it up
and let everyone know
It was something that he should have done
such a long time ago
Still time to start a new life in the palm trees
Billy Clyde wasn't insane
And it doesn't work out there'll never be any doubt
That the pleasure was worth all the pain

Chorus
The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
The skies are too clear, life is easy today
The beer is too cold, the daquiri's too fruitiful
There's no place like home when it's this far away
I need time for to play
Time for to play
“Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.”

To parrotphrase Jimmy (from the ParrotHead Handbook)

"The Weather Is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful" - Graffiti in the bathrooms of good bars has always been a great source of inspiration. I think this one either came from Captain Tony's or the Napolean House in New Orleans. :pirate:

well the line that says "There's no place like home when you this far away" to me says that the grass always seems greener but it's not really. Seems to me like he was on an island somewhere but wanted to be home. How else could the beer be too cold. But that's just me. Actually the well deserved overdue binge sounds good too.

It's a story....how many of us have dreamed about chucking it all and running away to the Caribbean?
Well I’m a tidal pool explorer
From the days of my misspent youth
I believe that down on the beach
Where the seagulls preach
Is where the Chinese buried the truth...

If I recall correctly, isn't Billy Clyde an old soap opera character who ran away to the islands?
I read that somewhere

I've always taken it as some guy is feeling overworked and underappreciated and decides to chuck it move down south. Everyone he leaves a plethora of people who need him in some form or fashion, and even he isn't sure if it's the right decision, but to paraphrase the song, the pleasure will be worth all the pain.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I know that billy clyde was a Burt Reynolds character in Semi-Tough...I think there was someone on one of the soaps.....but was a pimp......hum.....

cobo.org mentions the soap reference....."Billy Clyde was a sleazy character on the ABC soap opera "All My Children." Billy Clyde's lifelong dream was to make enough money to one day escape to the islands of the Caribbean."

(Hope there isn't a problem with the cobo link......if there is, moderators, please feel free to edit it out......I couldn't find a similar reference on bnews.)

Yeah, I think they'll let the cobo link slide, seein' as they're not stealing many BN posters these days. (I have the feeling that Chris and Jim weren't really 'competitors' anyway.)

Anybody see a similiarity between Billy Clyde and Billy Voltaire?

I always took it as, way after the fact, Jimmy's nod to Don't Stop The Carnival. Way after the fact meaning once I read DSTC. Then it seemed to make more sense.

Not that I was looking for any sense. But the intro of the song is hilarious, all that yelling. Led ball! or whatever it is he says. Some post or thread had the words - people's guesses - to that intro but I don't know where it is.

I think that he's saying it's okay to get away for a while. Every time that I have gone south, It takes me a day or two to be on Mexico time. Slow down a little. I dpn't know about You, but I could use a "well deserved over due binge"
