Bahamas to St. Barths

Ok, I am turning to my resourceful BNers for some help. In April I will be in Nassau, Bahamas. I have been to Nassau many times before, the reason I am going is because we are having a big family trip down there. My question is, what is the best/cheapest way to get me from Nassau to St. Barths for a few days to escape the family? I have never been there, but I know all about having to probably go through St. Martin first. I know about the commuter flights that hop form St. Martin to St. Barths, and the ferries as well. So, what would be the best way to get from Nassau to St. Barths, and would I have to get to St. Martin first? Either way it doesnt matter to me whether I have to go through St. Martin to get there or I can get directly to St. Barths, I just want to know how to get to either from Nassau. I have been scouring the internet for days, and it seems that all the small airlines that fly throughout the caribbean will only fly throughout the Bahamas, or throughout the Virgin Islands, etc. How do I get from Nassau to St. Barths/St. Martin???
I really hope the answer isnt going back through Florida first...
I know there are lots of pilots and people with more experience than me in the caribbean, so hoping you can help out.
Thanks in advance guys.

I am nobody, and I don't know the routes, but I am guessing that you could connect through San Juan, PR?
We flew out of Miami and connected thru PR to St Martin into SBH.
Better yet, you might be able to get from the Bahamas to some other nearby island that connects directly to SBH, like Guadalupe or something.
Try working your trip backwards from SBH.

Tradewinds charter in San Juan has direct flights into St. Barts. It isn't cheap, but doable if you can share the expense. A good website for this is SBHonline..check out the forum search engine and there are several options in there.....St. Martin has a new terminal and it really isn't that bad..You can hire a service from St. Barts to meet you(premium IV) and expedite the transfer..or book a flight on St. Barts Commuter and they will get your luggage and get you through the transit gate..which is what I do......Feel free to e-mail me , but if go on the St. Bart's website I mentioned, you can find all your answers there......enjoy....It is worth the hassel of getting there.

Getting to St. Barths from SXM I have no problem with, I will just take the ferry over (cheaper than flying), I am just tyring to figure out how to get from Nassau to St. Maartin without going through Florida first. Thanks for the idea about the tradewinds charter, but it sounds quite expensive, and if I have to go through Puerto Rico I will just take a regularly scheduled flight on Delta, USair, etc.

Two things you should know about ferry (vs. flying) from SXM to St Barths: it takes longer (:60 vs. :10) and it is subject to weather (read: seasickness). If it's still "cheaper" for you after factoring those items, then I'd say go for it.

Alright, sounds like it is going to be way to difficult (and expensive) to get from Nassau to St. Barths easily. I am going to just go directly to St. Barths in May when I have more time. I will just get a flight from the US to St. Maarten, and then I will just take a flight on St. Barths Commuter to get to SBH.

I've done the crossing on the ferry multiple times and I've never gotten sick on it. The one time I flew in I almost lost my lunch upon landing and beinging thrown against the seatbelt so hard as the pilot jammed on the brakes.
