If we want a forty-something, past-his-prime, overpaid lefty....

we'll just go down to Ocean Beach and pull David Wells off his bar stool! :D
(and I hope we do!)
May be a nice complement to past his prime, overpaid righty in his 40's you signed this winter......

:)
Opinion? Who will end up with more career wins? Maddux (333 now and signed) or Clemens (348 now but unsigned)?

And I remember so many sportswriters saying that Nolan Ryan would be the LAST 300 game winner...
good question. I'd lean towards Clemens but it's not out of the question by any means that Madduz ends up with more. Even if he gets a few more wins I'd still take Rocket as the best pitcher of my generation....

Maddux 333-203 3.07 ERA 1.136 WHIP 35 Shutouts 3160 K's 4 CYA's 16 Gold Gloves 8 All Stars 1 WS Championship

Clemens 348-178 3.10 ERA 1.170 WHIP 46 Shutouts 4604 K's 7 CYA's No Gold Gloves 11 All stars 1 MVP 2 WS Championships

They are close. obviously it's tough to compare a Defensive minded non power guy like Maddux to a Strikeout pitcher like Rocket.

I know this isn't what you asked but I was bored and I never sat down and compared their stats before. i still go with Clemens but you can't lose either way.

I won't argue, but will point out one flaw in your arguement. Maddux is not known as a power pitcher, but that is only because he's always been so good at working the edges. He has plenty of power when needed...he's 12th All-time in strikeouts!!! If he pitches to the end of his contract, he'll have as many as Walter Johnson, and with a lot less innings pitched!

What I would like to know is the New York media seemingly relieved, surprised, or angry. Not that I care, just wondering.

Very true Jim Good point but I was comparing his power to Clemens..... I've always been a fan of Maddux. Bottom line is both are all time greats!

Plus we share a birthday......He had it first though!

Not surprised since he endeared himself SO well to the media by shoving a cameraman a few years ago.

But seriously, it was obvious that the main reason why Johnson came to NYC is Steinbrenner's money.

The Yanks just inked Doug Mientkiewicz for first base. I think it's a good move. A good glove at first has been missing for years. In the playoffs last year, Sheffield's error proved pretty costly.

Speaking of which...... Hey Yanks and Sox fans, I'm thinking of getting some tickets for one of the series in the Bronx. Anyone interested?

My ticket plan includes atleast one of the games ( I've narrowed down which plan I'm getting this year to one of two) but sure you can sign me up for another one.

If I can get one then yes. I know it is very difficult to get tickets up here for the Sox-Yankees series (any of them).

Yeah they are all sold out here for sure. They are the first individual games to sell out. no doubts. I guess Fenway being so small doesn't help either....
