Lookin to go to the tropics for vacation

Post by CoronaMargaritahead »

Okay so my girlfriend and I don't have a bunch to spend. I checked sandals and that's way too expensive, but I'm looking for a place that is pretty safe and pretty nice. I found a cruise to Bermuda out of Philly for $1000 a piece, which isn't too bad but I'd like to get a better deal. I'm looking to go in May after the 18th, since that's when my girl graduates. I've looked at a lot of all-inclusive stuff and its so expensive. I wouldn't rule out south Florida or some remote beaches or anything. I just want to spend a week with my honey off the blue coast. Just figured this would be the best place to go and ask questions. BTW if you're thinking I'm cheap, it's cause I'm in college ;) You all know how that was

any feedback would be very much helpful!

Spirit Airlines is having a fantastic sale right now- some 5 cent (pre-tax) fares, some .05 per mile.

If you have it pulled up on the reservations system, yes. It can vary by day and stuff, but they're always cheap, and they seem to have good flight times for us. I've flown them a few times, and have had better experiences with them than any other operating airline (I loved ATA more, but they went under).

Bermuda is rather exspensive.

Check into St Kitts. Far better prices than most other Caribbean destinations. Plus, it's not nearly as commercialized as others.
Beautiful island with beautiful people.
Now her sister island Nevis is more upscale.

Barbados is reasonably priced they have some great small motels along the southern coast. There is a lot to do there and the people are great. They are very far south so if you hit the beach double up on the sunscreen.

Grenada is another seldom mentioned destination. The spices there are awesome. Very nice beaches and the food is well worth the trip. It is also reasonably priced if you avoid the all-inclusives.

I would suggest Mexico. The caribbean is the best place on earth, but more expensive. For the 2K that you are talking for a cruise you could do an all inclusive in mexico at a nice place. I have never been on a cruise (never want to) but from friends that have if you plan on drinking it will cost you plenty.

if you shop around, we've always found cruises to be economical because everything is included. I'll bet you can find specials on for around $100 a day. Maybe even look into getting some cheap plane tickets down to FL and take the cruise from there.

Yep! I agree!!!! Hubby and I have been to Playa del Carmen twice in 3 years and loved it both times. :D :D we paid $2600 for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids, included airfare and all inclusive resort). :D It was absolutely fabulous. :D

oh. and to add to that, i usually call my handy-dandy favorite travel agent who specializes in mexico and is also a BNr. http://www.lonepalmtravel.com. Anna Lynne is the bestest. it might seem a bit old-fashioned to use a travel agent when the internet is at your fingertips, but she does an *awesome* job and finds the bestest deals and places to go. :D

The wife and I have been researching online for days now looking for a place to spend a week for our ten year anniversary in March.
We usually do cruises and love them but want to spend a little more time in a place.
We are very close to booking for a place in the Cancun area of Mexico.

We went ten years ago and were not that thrilled by it, but went back this last fall and it was great. A lot of very nice all inclusives in cancun area. Accomodations are nice and food and drinks were outstanding. Clear blue water and good prices. The money these resorts are spending to make it a nice resort area is amazing.
