And to think: Red Sox fans were disappointed when he signed with the dreaded Yankees instead of the Red Sox. I think we lucked out on this one! He has been a total waste of $$ for the Yankees.jonesbeach10 wrote:And some things never change...
Pavano Skips Start For "Personal Reasons"
Carl Pavano's troubled time with the Yankees continued on two fronts Friday. Because of a personal problem, the righthander was scratched from his start and left Legends Field 45 minutes before game time, and word got out that he is being sued for a car accident last August that the police report said was his fault.
Pavano was to make his second start of spring training at 7:15 Friday night against the Devil Rays. At about 6:30 p.m., he approached manager Joe Torre and pitching coach Ron Guidry to tell them of a personal situation of concern to him. Moments later, director of media relations Jason Zillo announced that Pavano had left the building and would not pitch because of personal reasons.

NL MVP: Albert Pujols. He should have won it 4 of the last 5 years anyway.
AL Cy Young: Johan Santana. Duh.
NL Cy Young: Ben Sheets. Finally stays healthy, proves what he can do.
AL ROY: Matt Garza. Breakout pitcher for Twins
NL ROY: (I'll get back to this one...don't know enough about who's coming up)
Well, not sure what makes a surprise team - but I don't think Cincy would qualify. Alot of the experts are picking them for the wild card so not much a surprise there - I have been picking them for years . . . and I have been wrong for years.BottleofRum wrote:My predictions. Last season I did pretty good, amoung others I picked Leyland as manager of the year, Florida as the surprise NL team and the White Sox to flop.

Couple risky plays there, huh? Devil Rays in third and Ben Sheets? Wow. Like them both, just risky. If Tampa Bay could ever get a pitching staff beyond Kazmir they would be legit. They have a top 3 outfield in all MLB. Sheets is an enigma.CaptainP wrote:Those predictions were my early ones. Off the top of my head. Those D-Ray prospects should finally come through. Their staff is, well, questionable, but I still think the offense will be good enough to pull them past Toronto and Baltimore.drunkpirate66 wrote:

I know Sheets' numbers . . . I am sort of a fantasy baseball geek; not that that makes me anything but I do get into the numbers and trends. I like Sheets alot its just hard to back him after a couple of sub par seasons. I did, however, do the same thing with Peavy. Who knows, Randy Johnson in the NL West could mean big numbers, right?CaptainP wrote:Those D-Ray prospects should finally come through. Sheets is AMAZING when healthy. I'm betting on healthy. There's no doubting his talent. His last three years he has walked 68 in 500 innings, with 521 Ks.

As for the Rays, yeah you would think having top draft picks for the past decade would eventually pan out - if they could only trade for a legit veteran or two.
