If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!

Actually the Quote it was based on as you can see here is "World series" thereby eliminating Hockey and all the other stuff. Poker has a World series but it's not a team event so don't try that one.TommyBahama wrote:Jerry said any team!!!!!...and for the record i believe Oakland and Cincy come close as far in my lifetime!!flipflopgirl wrote:BRB with Shannon and the ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!aeroparrot wrote:We're hijacking it and making it a hockey thread.flipflopgirl wrote:aeroparrot wrote:Yep. Now I don't know how old you are Tom but dating back to 1965, Oakland has 4 World Series Championships and Cincy has 3.

A stat like this will make people hate you for sure:
The New York Yankees have won twenty-six World Series championships, more than any other franchise and more than the combined number of titles won by the next three most successful clubs in the World Series.
Anyway, here's hoping we treat each other with respect in this thread ( myself included).....
I just hate the whole throw money out there and win a title concept. Or when people like Steriod Bonds makes the news.

Captain P, Tommy Bahama, and job41475...are you guys kidding me? The NL Central...The Reds are not gonna be 5th. Wino got the Reds about right, but then put the Cubs in 6th. Come on people. Here's how it's gonna play out...
1) St. Louis Cardinals (unfortunately)
2) Cincinnati Reds (wild card)
3) Chicago Cubs (great offseason)
4) Houston Astros (more depth than Brewers)
5) Milwaukee Brewers (some potential)
6) Pittsburgh Pirates (still horrible)

1B Scott Hatteberg
2B Brandon Phillips
SS Alex Gonzalez
3B Edwin Encarnacion
RF Ryan Freel
CF Ken Griffey Jr. (currently injured and out until ???)
LF Adam Dunn
C David Ross
and a rotation of
1. A. Harang
2. B. Arroyo
3. E. Milton
4. K. Lohse
5. E. Ramirez
with David Weathers as your closer.
The second half of 2006 is more indicative of what is to come than the first half was. 3 of your 5 starters had ERAs way above 5.00 last year.
Other than Dunn & Griffey, there is no power (don't be fooled by David Ross. Last year was nice, but he never showed that kind of power potential, even in the minors. He'll come back to Earth). I do like Freel and Phillips at the top of the order, but Phillips needs to learn how to get on base more. He rarely walks. With Adam Dunn (the Human Air Conditioner) behind them, they need to be on base. Griffey can't be counted on to stay healthy...heck he got hurt at home this off season and will miss part of spring training, maybe longer. Gonzalez is a journeyman. Encarnacion is a wild-card here, though. A big year from him could help them climb the standings, but I don't think it'll be enough. Your biggest off-season acquisitions (other than Gonzalez) are a washed-up 41-year-old backup first baseman, and a 40-year-old reliever.
That's why I put them in 5th. What direction is this team pointing towards in the future? It looks like a team that was put together with spare parts...just like the Mariners and Rockies.

I'm actually gonna wait on making predictions until March, but a couple thoughts.
Remember Pedro Martinez is out until at least the all-star break, so I'm so sure the Mets win the division. Plus it's not like they made any blockbuster deals this offseason.
Bernie Williams might not get a roster spot because the Yankees would rather carry a 234th 1st baseman than a 5th outfielder.

we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar
