As amazing, on paper, that the Red Sox would be; I really hope that they do not sign A Rod.

I think that the Yankees made a mistake with Posada signed until 40 . . . but Mike Lowell would've been worth it for four years: even if they only got 3 legit years out of it.

YOU won't, but the Red Sox might.
Based on history, I don't think the Red Sox would win anything with A-Rod in the line up. :P
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

The Yankees are a team full of 1st basemen and DHs. In 2 years Posada will be joining that group. They better hope the pitching staff leads the league in strikeouts next year because the defense will be pitiful.

When Jeff Kartsens, Ian Kenney, and Kei Igawa round out your 5 with Phillip Hughes and Chein Meing Wang (sp?) I doubt it.

Mussina is still a middle reliever.

Where does Mariano go? Set up man for Papelbon . . . that would be hysterical!

The Yankees really had no choice with Posada , if not him then who? There are no catchers available.

You think Scott Boras is smiling about that deal, Varitek is a free-agent after next season.

this is why I was shocked the the Red Sox and Yankees didn't go after Jarod Saltalamacchia.

I'm sure they tried but Atlanta wanted a good every day player (and got Teixiera) or a front of the rotation pitcher.

The Sox may yet get some catching help: from "The Buzz" section of boston.com...

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Red Sox have inquired about the Rangers' catching situation. Texas traded for Jarrod Saltalamacchia last season, and he and Gerald Laird split time behind the plate. It was unclear from the report which catcher the Red Sox were interested in. The 27-year-old Laird, who led the AL in throwing out baserunners, hit .224 with nine homers in 120 games last season. Saltalamacchia, 22, hit .266 with 11 homers and 33 RBIs last season. According to the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers are looking at center fielders, and the Red Sox just so happen to have Coco Crisp available.

there is talk of Crisp to Oakland as well in a deal that would involve Eric Chavez. Hope not.

The more I think about it the more I can see Sabathia winning the Cy Young? Why? 40 innings more than Beckett. 120 outs less for the bull pen.

Beckett has 1 more win . . . Sabathia has a better ERA . . . and the 40 innings might put him over.

Eric Chavez, just what they need, another guy (with Drew) who can't hit lefties.

Lowell is a goner. You don't have to look far to know that once the 15 day window is up and the star player has not resigned the chances of him coming back are not good.

I still say they sign ARod...the Red Sox want their Lowell contract offer to be out there long enough so the fans know they tried. By the end of the week the ARod talks will be out there.

The whole Lowell negotiation has been posturing on both sides. Lowell waited over a week (11 days I think) before he filed almost to show he wasn't rushing to leave then the Red Sox leak a story on Friday that they made a "strong" offer for Mike Lowell. They did not want to go to a 3 year deal, they wanted a 2 year deal, they finally added a third year last week which was farther than they wanted to go....so I highly doubt they go 4 years now. And I can't blame them, Lowell is a good player but not for a 4 year deal.

I don't have a problem with Sabathia winning it. Beckett showed in the post season who the better pitcher was but in the regular season Sabathia had slightely better numbers.

BUT

I do have a problem that one writer didn't have Sabathia in his top 3 and 2 writers didn't have Beckett in their top 3... :-? There is no question that Beckett and Sabathia were 2 of the top 3 pitchers this season.

I heard the Mets drove the price up on Posada and the Yankees had no choice to give him a lot of money!!!

i'm probably in the minority ...but i'm a huge Chavez fan!!!!....just as i was a Lowell fan before he came to Boston....and he was a throw in that nobody wanted..that turned out pretty good i'd say....maybe we can catch lightening in a bottle again...for Crisp i'd make the trade!!!!.......but i'd rather get Saltamacchia ..who also can play 1st base

They (Mets) did.
Also, after Torre signed on to manage he Dodgers, they were in the running as well.
It didn't really surprise me that he re-signed with the Yankees. As a couple people here stated, there were no other catchers available.
He'll be okay for a couple more years-after that he'll no doubt be a full time DH.
There's only ONE Carlton Fisk and Pudge Rodriguez.

Per ESPN, Yankees offer Marinio Rivera a 3Y $45M contract...Holly S@#T :o $15M per year for a 38 year old pitcher with all those miles on that arm.

I am not sure if there is another team who would offer him more than $12-$13M per year....
