Minneapolis is the home of the Triple-A farm team of the Red Sox.

(Remember some guy named David Oritz, or something like that? That's where he got HIS start).
Doug Mientkiewicz, too...

I had Ortiz on my fantasy team when he was a Twin. Just my luck.

The Twins are right up there with the best of them when it comes to letting good AND PROVEN talent get away.
A few that immediately come to mind are Graig Nettles, Rod Carew, Jim (Mudcat) Grant, Jim Perry, and now Torii Hunter.

There's some stat (CaptP?) that Buckner is the only person never to strike out three times in a game, and played in something like 22 seasons. (Feel free to correct me. This is hearsay from years ago.)
I don't know about not striking out three times in a game, but I do know he only struck out 453 times in nearly 9400 career at-bats (Reggie Jackson could do that in less than three seasons, and HE'S in the hall of fame), had 500 doubles, over 2700 hits, and nine out of ten years he had an on-base percentage of over .400. (It was .383 in that 10th year).

He BELONGS in the hall of fame.

Agreed. I think he was a HOF'er. Maybe a borderline one, but I think he deserves enshrinement.

Wasn't my stat, but I just looked into it.

It is true that he never struck out 3 times in a game.
I can not confirm that he is the only player to never do so.

Red Sox Twins close on deal?
From the Boston Globe:

It was after midnight in the Music City, and the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins were exchanging medical information on pitchers Johan Santana and Jon Lester, indicating that the clubs may be closing in on a deal for the two-time Cy Young Award winner.

Yankees have said they will not get in a bidding war with the Red Sox for Santana. The Twins have until Monday to say yes or no to the package of Hughes, Melky Cabrera, and a mid-level prospect.
The Yankees are in no position to make an ultimatum to the Twins.

They made an ultimatum to ARod, then went back on their word and re-signed him. If they do the same here, they lose all credibility.
If they are serious, then they just gave the Red Sox all the bargining power they need to acquire Santana.

Foolish move.
I agree, but at the same time, I don't want them throwing in Cano or packaging both Hughes and Kennedy because the Red Sox are offering Ellsbury OR Lester.
That's what I heard. It'll be one or the other, plus others obviously, but not both.
Right. But I'm saying I don't want to see the Yankees get into a bidding war and offer Cano just because they hear that the Twins are offering Lester and Ellsbury. Just saying IF that was to happen, not saying that's what the offer is.

The talk from Tennessee is that the Sox upped the ante. Lester AND Ellsbury AND Crisp!!!

This deal doesn't make much sense on either side, Minn already had D. Young in the OF adding Crisp and Ellsbury would leave them with no OF power at the plate...and for the Red Sox, if this goes through they have to give Santanta a $125-$150M 4-6 year deal which is doable BUT then to sign Andrew Jones (a Boras client) that would take another 4-5 year deal at $15M+ per year. I just don't see them doing that. A more likely secenario if they trade Ellsbury and Crisp is sign Aaron Rowand.

Keeping Santana out of NY is huge . . . duh!

But latest I heard does not involve Elisbury . . . Crisp, Lester, Lowry, Materson.

3 potenial number two starters . . . Twins would win this in the long run. I think.

The Red Sox don't really need Santana, what they need is NY not to get him. The Red Sox would be perfectly happy if this deal falls aprt and he stays in Minn. It woudl be great to get him but the bigger concern for them is keeping him from NY.

not sure how good Ian Kennedy will be . . . and I know Hughes is good; although not Buccholtz good . . .IMO . . . but right now that Yankees staff is worse than the Rays . . . . on paper, anyways.

Or if they get Elisbury and Crisp they could trade Crisp, plenty of teams are interested in Crisp.

well . . . Delmon Young is not a centerfielder . . . and Elisbury can play anywhere . . . right or left.

As or right now, Young is their starting CF, with Cuddyer in right and Craig Monroe in left. I know they'd love to upgrade Monroe.

What team in their right mind would make a trade for Elijah Dukes?
He's a walking felony waiting to happen.

Good luck with that, Nationals. :-?

Word is Tigers ARE making a push for Miguel Cabrera, with Dontrell Willis being thrown in for Cameron Mayben & Andrew Miller + a couple more players. Although the Marlins may just be using this rumor to get the Angels moving on their proposed pursuit of Cabrera.

Ah......baseball winter meetings..........gotta luv it!!!
