Oh, it gets even better..... This is our high school!!

What isn't is the article is the fact that while the administration rejected the picture for the senior section, they also suggested that the picture carrying a sword might be acceptable if it were to be placed in an advertisement in the back of the yearbook.... And ad for which the family would have to pay....

This is just STOOOPID........

and as the article points out, the school mascot often carries a musket.......

Well....rules are rules but they should be the SAME rules for each and every one.
We are also the Patriots. We do not have any "weapons" so to speak in our mascot pictures. I totally agree...this is a stupid.

I got peeved at our principal (at the Elem. school) for not helping promote GS cookie sales. He said "I am a role model and I can not promote unhealthy eating"...but he BOUGHT SOME!!! SSSHHHH...it's a secret!!!!

Yeah but...... when they suggested that rule might be relaxed if the family PAID for an ad in the back, and put the picture there..... NO WAY......

(You probably won't see that part mentioned... the administration backpedaled on that one fast, before the story made it out of town.....)

I don't know of a lot of private schools that would have allowed it either.

BTW, the kids submit their senior picture? In my yearbook, senior guys wore a pseudo tux (it was just the front so that in the picture, it would look like they were wearing a tux, and they put it over their regular clothes) and girls wore an evening gown. They gave us a choice of a few proofs and different poses, but we didn't have a choice of the wardrobe. Anything like what this kid was wearing would have gone in the ads section.

Our private high school has a Rennaissance faire every year. About 200 students pick a topic in that time period and do a huge project. On Faire Day, they display their work and the whole school goes to this. I've seen food, clothing, art, WEAPONS, etc. on display. The year my son participated, his report was on the "haliburton" (sp?). Him and my husband made it. Sort of a long pole with a huge axe on the end. He got an A! :D

BTW - The kids senior pics are "formal" in our school for the yearbook.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

We submitted our own, but we had requirements about size, pose, lighting and clothing- and no props at all allowed.

I work at a private school.
I doubt if that pic would have been allowed in our yearbook either :-?

No but it would not be plastered all over the news either.

I could tell you stories about keeping things out of the news that should be published about private schools, but I won't go there...

Clothing in official pix in our annuals have to conform to the school dress code.

Students can purchase space in the annual to show themselves involved in personal hobbies or activites.

All I remember about my high school senior picture was I had all my long hair tied back and I was stoned outta my mind. I should try to find the year book and see if I can scan the pic in.
