Oh, it gets even better..... This is our high school!!
What isn't is the article is the fact that while the administration rejected the picture for the senior section, they also suggested that the picture carrying a sword might be acceptable if it were to be placed in an advertisement in the back of the yearbook.... And ad for which the family would have to pay....
This is just STOOOPID........
and as the article points out, the school mascot often carries a musket.......

Well....rules are rules but they should be the SAME rules for each and every one.
We are also the Patriots. We do not have any "weapons" so to speak in our mascot pictures. I totally agree...this is a stupid.
I got peeved at our principal (at the Elem. school) for not helping promote GS cookie sales. He said "I am a role model and I can not promote unhealthy eating"...but he BOUGHT SOME!!! SSSHHHH...it's a secret!!!!
"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)
BTW, the kids submit their senior picture? In my yearbook, senior guys wore a pseudo tux (it was just the front so that in the picture, it would look like they were wearing a tux, and they put it over their regular clothes) and girls wore an evening gown. They gave us a choice of a few proofs and different poses, but we didn't have a choice of the wardrobe. Anything like what this kid was wearing would have gone in the ads section.
Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar
Our private high school has a Rennaissance faire every year. About 200 students pick a topic in that time period and do a huge project. On Faire Day, they display their work and the whole school goes to this. I've seen food, clothing, art, WEAPONS, etc. on display. The year my son participated, his report was on the "haliburton" (sp?). Him and my husband made it. Sort of a long pole with a huge axe on the end. He got an A!
BTW - The kids senior pics are "formal" in our school for the yearbook.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"
All I remember about my high school senior picture was I had all my long hair tied back and I was stoned outta my mind. I should try to find the year book and see if I can scan the pic in.
