Paul McCartney used a teleprompter the last time I saw him. We had seats behind the stage and could see it.

Their all growing older not up.
He could still put his (Beatle) boots under my bed anytime!
according to the One-Legged Wonder, the only things stiff about Sir Paul are his drinks, and his arteries tho..

Listen to one of the Hamptons benefit concerts . . . he's the only guitar on the stage . . . He's not Clapton, but he plays . . .

True..... It's Mac that's guitar-syncing up on the stage.... Mr. Lee Totten in behind the curtain playin' the live guitar for him..... That's why we don't see Mr. Lee anymore.... stuck in the background.......

Hell, he never touches this strings. I think he just carries the guitar so he has a place to rest his arms.
And ya know, that works for me. I could just look at him for a while. It doesn't matter what is coming out of his mouth. Words, air. Not important. [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif] Put him and Alan Jackson in some Levis and just stand them right next to eachother and send someone to mop up my drool. Ohhhh. And cowboy hats. Must have cowboy hats.

The "big deal" in Jimmy's case is he'd said on more than one occasion he'd quit before he'd use a teleprompter. Now he's using one so he apparently had a change of heart somewhere along the way....

I just attribute that statement to youth (although he was probably in his 40s or 50s when he said it :) ) or rum. Sort of like Pete Townshend singing "I hope I die before I get old".....and he's another artist still touring into his 60s. Of course, 60 is the new 40. :D

Given the following choices:

1) Jimmy hangs it up

2) Jimmy keeps touring, using a teleprompter (very infrequently, from my observations at a handful of shows this year...)

I'll take Door #2 for $1000, Alex. :D

or like when he said he was going to put the Fins shark on ebay or leave the surfboard bench *somewhere*-----it's back at M-ville in Orlando, I think he forgets what he says on stage :D

When he was young, didn't Mick Jagger once say he didn't want to still be singing Satisfaction when he was 35, or something like that? What is he now, 65?

The young (and 40-something is YOUNG) often say silly things, then change their minds when faced with reality years later...... 8)

or his recent "this song I wrote" while referring to Bama Breeze at the Aspen show. I don't think it's fair to quote him while on stage, everything should be considered "off the record".

But I gotta say, if he has the teleprompter....use it! He's still messing up the lyrics! What're we gonna do with you, Jimmy?

Jimmy hasn't retired yet.

And I last heard him say he'd quit before using a teleprompter in his follow up 60 Minutes interview (summer '04).

I remember a solo of He Went to Paris that lasted a good 8 minutes. Unless I didn't pay any attention to the other guy behind the curtain, that was all Jimmy.

Sure, there are some songs where he just goes through the motions on the guitar - but he certainly does play.

Hell I have a hard enough time remembering what day it is yet alone singing 20 some songs every time I step on stage in front of thousands of drunk lazy - Oh wait, I don't write for Slate.

FOR SHAME FOR SHAME
