Probably so, Lenora, but hearing Boomer Esiason call him the greatest quarterback ever was the last straw.
That's Boomer's problem, not Peyton's.

Yeah, the guy does a lot of commercials, but a recent market research study still listed him as by far the most marketable NFL player...even with all of his current exposure. I've not seen Peyton "seek out" the media and show off or slam others as some atheletes routinely do these days. The interviews are all part of the job and being the quarterback of his team...people always want to know what he has to say.

And yeah, all I've ever heard around town is he's a decent guy. Indy's a pretty conservative place that wouldn't and hasn't embraced just any athelete (e.g. Ron Artest was basically run out of town), but Manning has earned the community's respect both on and off the field.
I thought I heard Stephen Jackson got traded too?

It was a good game, despite the rain. Nice to see that people aren't complaining about the refs calls/non calls like other years. :)

Colts didn't overpower the Bears, but they did play better the 2nd half. Their running game won it more than Manning's passing game.

Congrats to both teams, and their fans. :)

Please, God. I beg you.
NO MORE PHIL SIMMS - EVER AGAIN.     The man is a complete idiot with ever word he speaks.

Phil Simms was great imo.
Funny, I was thinking as I was watching that he is one of the better commentators I've heard in a while but then I tend to like the players turned commentators for their insight, Joe Theisman being my fave.

I know the weather was terrible but Rex did play exactly the way that many expected him too, myself not included.
I'm happy for the Colts, Dungy, but mostly Peyton Manning.

I also thought that the halftime showed turned out great in the rain
Purple Rain in the rain....nice...I think that Prince did great and he sure can play the hell out of the guitar but then I already knew that.

I totally agree with you, Penny. Phil was a hell of a player, but he should of stopped there. Please don't ever put a mic in this guy's hands again. His announcing was as bad as his Donald Trump hair.

Congratulations Peyton Manning!
Image
Super Bowl Champion and MVP!

Its so nice to have a respectable person on top in professional sports! Did he gloat or brag when they gave him the mic? No! Did he call out his doubters? No! He simply honored his team for what they had accomplished together and then honored his coach for what he had accomplished. It was completely awesome to hear both Peyton and Dungy talk about being Christians and doing things the Christian way! What a great moment in sports! You are not only witnessing the best QB to ever play the game. You are also witnessing a person of true character and dignity being the role model that our children can look up to. When he graduated from Tennessee, the last thing he said was, "Don't remember me first by what I did on the field, but the person that I was off the field." Can you ask for any more?

Congratulations to the best QB ever to play the game as well as a person of honorable character and Christian beliefs!

I think the Colts totally dominated the game.....plays 81-46.....1st half the Bears only ran 19 plays.....Time of possession....38+ to 21+..........5 turnovers to 3...yardage 436+/- to 240+/-....and 14 of the bears points came on a kick off return and a fumble way down in Colts territory!!....Highlight for the Bears was Jones's 52 yard run!!!.......So the score might have been close most of the game.......I think it was a Colts dominated game!!!.....and most of the commercials were terrible!!

Yeah - I agree, Santa. Sorry, Bob - while he's good, he's not the greatest.

Dan Marino
John Elway
Fran Tarkenton
Johnny Unitas
Brett Favre
Otto Graham
Roger Staubach
Jim Kelly

too many others who were just as good or better. :)

Agreed. Peyton Manning is a great quarterback and a good and decent human being, but he's not the greatest QB ever... Not by a long shot....

I think Phil Simms is one of the best football announcers on TV. He's a really nice guy too, very down to earth.

Have to disagree with ya Penny. I think Phil does a very good job on a week to week basis. It makes perfect sense for him to call the SuperBowl as a) he's on CBS's top broadcast team, b) he has alot of insight and c) he statistically had one of the best performances in Super Bowl History.

Vive le Phil Simms!

I think it's too early to tell where Peyton fits in the list of great quarterbacks. Hopefully his career has several more years....

Statistically, the Colts dominated. They basically beat the Bears at their own game...rushing, defense and takeaways. And after the first return they successfully neutralized Devin Hester. I thought it was interesting after the game how Tom Jackson and Steve Young said Peyton didn't play a very good game...sure the Colts didn't get in the end zone 5 times but the Bears aren't pushovers. The Colts managed the clock well, Peyton's one interception was almost as good as a punt, and they adjusted their game to a sloppy field...something Grossman wasn't able to do at all.

Grossman has some talent but that guy just has to learn how to take care of a football. Between his fumbles and the two interceptions (the sideline one was appropriately called "flippant"), he really showed he has a lot to learn. The wind really went from the Bears' sails when they were moving the ball in the second half, had a 2nd-and-1, and then Grossman messed up two consecutive plays to take them back to a 4th-and-25.

Brian Urlacher played a tough and good game...he made some key tackles...he just didn't have enough help around him on defense or offense. He's a spirited and fun player to watch...and a class act. It's fun to see yet another great middle linebacker with the Bears. Lance Briggs was fairly quiet during the game.

At the end of the game our gang was trying to figure out who should get the MVP award. It took some debate because we all felt it was so much a team victory vs. one player clearly dominating the game. Rhodes certainly could have gotten it, along with Bob Sanders or a couple others...but Peyton probably did deserve it because he managed and led a good game.

To a team with a lot of class, chararcter and integrity, that so clearly reflects their coach, Super Bowl Champions...that's just cool! :D :D

There's no doubt that Peyton Manning is a great QB, but the greatest ever? I don't think you can call any QB in the modern era the greatest ever. Hardly anybody throws the ball down the field anymore, 25-30 years ago nobody completed 65-70% of their passes because they were going deep a lot. Now the west coast offense and it's 5 and 6 yard passes dominate the NFL. Most QBs don't call their own plays anymore, in the old days just about all of them did. I'd like to see how some of these current guys would do without the crutch of the coaching staff calling all the plays for them.

For someone who has such good taste in baseball teams, you're QB selection is somewhat suspect......
