Okay, before we bury the Bears as the worst team ever assembled, lets look at things. Rex's problems is that he is inconsistent. Yes he sucks sometimes, other times he was very good. Bob Avellini sucked all the time, as did Orton, who did just enough not to lose, but could never win one. Grossman has that ability to win or lose a game for you.
Look at the "mighty AFC teams", and they lost too, even to some doormats.
The Colts D was rejuvinated by Sanders return. The Bears D was missing 2 pro bowlers. Not an excuse, as injuries happen, but realize that that did not help them in the SB. (Add Benson injury to that too).
The Bears were not the worst 13-3 team ever, just ask the Saints, the Patriots who barely squeaked out a win over them at home and the Colts who were only up by 5 in the fouth quarter.
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD 1985-1986 IS OVER, STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AND MAKE DITKA ET AL GO AWAY!!!!

The Colts had additional injuries, too. Their two starting defensive tackles missed the entire season and 12 games, respectively (that's why they traded mid-season for past-his-prime McFarland), they lost a starting safety for the season (in addition to Sanders being out most of the year), and their slot receiver was lost several games back. During the Super Bowl a starting cornerback only lasted a few plays on an injured ankle, his replacement got knocked out, and an offensive tackle played just the first half. Injuries happen. One of the amazing things about the Patriots' teams has been their ability to overcome injuries, personnel changes, etc. and continue playing at a high level. Yeah, the Colts' run defense was beyond lousy for much of the season (see above injuries and their post-season wake-up call), but ultimately the team got it done.

BTW, after the team returned to town yesterday afternoon they had a parade through downtown in 8 degree weather with the players on open air floats (with 15-hours prep time...those Indianapolis 500 Festival floats came in handy) a lot of folks lined the streets ...and then a rally at the dome...filled to capacity...it was pretty neat to watch. Well done, Colts!

I don't care that much that the Bears lost. We got to watch them play all the way into the Super Bowl. That alone made it a great season.

Q & S I am not saying the injuries were to blame and that Indy didnt have any. As I stated it is part of the game. I was just addressing the people on the board who said the Bears sucked or were the worst 13-3 team ever and reasons why that was not true. The Colts were the better team Sunday and that is all that matters. They have a great team and adapt to the situation to win, which shows good players and good coaching. That being said, it doesnt mean the Bears are terrible, even if they had bad game Sunday and got completely outplayed and outcoached.
The Colts should enjoy the win, they earned it. The Bears should have enjoyed the ride but come back P.O'd because they pi**ed all over themselves in the biggest game they had.
Great to see so much support for the Colts yesterday, the city should enjoy!

I would agree with your comments, but I do think the Bears were definitely overachievers this year. There was a lot of luck involved (and a lot of talent) but in the end, not enough of the talent and none of the luck.

Obvisouly you must be new to sports, because it aint over til the final gun goes off.

you do sports analysis as well as you do weather reports...I'm nearly 50 years old and have loved sports all my life....and althought I think the Katrina line of yours was out of line I will through out a white flag by saying we both have one thing in common.....We'll see each other in the playoffs next year 8)

While my Bears didn't end up on top last Sunday, it was kind of hard to be that upset. Any other Sunday I would have been rooting for Indy as well. How can you not like Tony Dungy? Classy in every sense of the word. While I know there are a lot of Peyton detractors, I personally think he's a great role model in pro sports, and the way he can pick apart defenses and change plays at the line is second to none.

Unfortunately this wasn't our year in Chicago. We did well in the first quarter, held on in the 2nd and even the 3rd but in the 4th Indy just took over (with a lot of help from Rex). Congrats to Indy, well deserved success.

This was Rex's chance to quiet his critics and we all saw how well that went. Couple that with Ron Rivera's odd defensive calls and the offensive predictability it was a losing combination through and through. Resign Lovie, let Rivera take the Cowboys job, replace him and the offensive coordinator, release Rex, play Griese (for lack of a better option) and spend a draft pick on a future prospect. No matter how the next few months play out, I have no doubt the Bears will again contend in a weak NFC and will make the playoffs easily. What happens from there is anyone's guess.

Good thing pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks. Maybe watching my Cubbies can distract me for 6 months till we start up again.

Other than the "head start" the Bears received ( ), the Colts pretty much dominated every aspect of the game....

It was what a 5 point game going into the 4th? Domination? I do not think so. Dominating would have been like a 21 point lead going into the 4th.

Dude, apart from the opening kickoff TD return, the Bears only scored 10 points. And did you check Grossman's passing stats through the first three quarters? The Colts didn't need a 21 point lead.

except the scoreboard.

Yeah Indy was killing them in almost every statistical category, but all the bears needed was one big play and they would have had the lead in the 4th quarter. The game wasn't really sealed until Grossman threw the 2 picks.

Game is over.

Score was close in numbers for most of it.

Colts dominated in statistics.

Bears did better in the first half than the second.

Game is over.

I figure CBS was demanding the Colts stay out of the end zone so everyone wouldn't turn off their TVs....
