Alright, spring break cruise with some college friends, we will be here for a day. I am an experienced traveler and not a cruiser, I am just going along becuase it is what all my friend's want to do. My question is, I dont want to jump on any overpriced tourist excursions through the cruise company, I want to grab my backpack and explore the island for the day. Anyone ever been and can tell me some interesing places to visit? I have been researching online and it doesnt look like there is much to do on your own, but was just wondering if anyone has had any independent experience on the island. Thanks

It doesn't matter where you are going, you can always get a better deal than what the cruise ship offers. Say you are in a group of 4. The cruise ship offers a tour of a local spot at $75 a head. If the four of you pool together, you are better off meeting a local guide and negotiating with him. He might be willing to handle you tour for less than half of the ship, and at your pace.

Yeah I am definetly going to grab my own local guy. Unfortunately my friends want to do the overpriced tourist trips from the cruise line, and they wont listen to my advice (which is based on experience), so oh well. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good sights to see or things to do independently or if I grab a guy where I can tell him I want to go.weirdo0521 wrote:It doesn't matter where you are going, you can always get a better deal than what the cruise ship offers.
