My Chemical Romance & James taylor's Son

Post by cowboyjunkie »

MCR:
I'm a little old for this type of emo sound but this album scored so many great reviews that I had to hear it. Wow! It sounds like T Rex and Queen had a stepchild. If you loved the epic 70's rock sound, this album brings it all into a modern context. Rock and roll might be on a respirator these days but its far from dead!

Ben Taylor:
I didn't even know James had a son. I think the mother is Carole King from something I read. His music reminds me very much of his father but set in a more contemporary atmosphere (i.e. John Mayer without the whining). He does an amazing Portishead cover which is how I stumbled across his music. I'd love to hear him tackle "Mexico"!

Great music from both. Your results may vary.

I like MCR....The Black Parade is a great album....
Kids are good for something....there are a lot of the new bands I would never have listened to if it weren't for a teen ager in the house!

This must be better than anything I've heard from MCR in the past, because what I've heard from them before was terrible. (And I'm pretty open to listenening to new music).

I've liked Ben Taylor for a looong time.
Saw him and his Sister playing with his mother, Carly Simon, on Good Morning America recently.

They were on Saturday Night Live a few weeks back. I had to turn it off, I thought they were awful.

My bad. They are interchangable in my mind.

I 100% agree with you there. This album sort of caught me with my guard down since I expected a really lame album. They struck gold with this one. Check out the song "Teenagers".

I have always liked Ben Taylor. I saw a show at La Zona Rosa in Austin a few years back when he released Famous Among the Barns, and he was funny and animated with a great voice and backing band. Island is great and I always had to grin when he sang "Let It Grow."

I've always liked "I Will" from the Bye Bye Love soundtrack. One of my favorite Ben Taylor songs.

I just bought Carly's new CD Into White and "You Can Close Your Eyes" is covered by Carly, Ben and Sally Taylor.

Thanks for the reminder about Ben. It's been nice to come back to his music and see where he's gone in the last 5 years.

Got Another Run Around The Sun by Ben Taylor and finally took the time to listen to it. Nice. Sounds so much like James, of course, but to me it reminds me a little of the old PM (Peter Mayer) stuff.
