"Those were the days" was written by Keith Sykes but I suppose it could be the same Jimmy
Found this on Keith's website:
"I wrote this as a tribute to some of my heroes and to remember what it was like back then. And I’ll be dammed, talk about heroes, Jerry Jeff put this song on his “Cowboy Boots and Bathing Suits” album. Life is good."

Maybe so

Another song that mentions Jimmy is "Parrot Bay" by Jake and the Half Conched Band

The only songs I can think of have already been mentioned, Blake and Alan.

Mail Myself To Mexico - Buddy Jewell (at least that's what Limewire said)

GREAT SONG. Heh.

A great song is "I Got Dem Jimmy Buffett You Can Stuff It Key West Calypso Blues" by Kip Attaway. Very well written, and too funny.

The true Buffett masterpiece though is "Bacon Shrimp and Tomato" by Barry Cuda. When I first heard that song I almost died of laughter. However, it does not specifically mention him. It says, "The name is Buffet. Y'all have a nice day."

I thought the question pertained to major acts/writers, not cover bands or cover wannabe bands.
With all due respect...look again. I see nothing in the original question limiting the scope of the replies to bands that *you* think are "major."

Not to mention there are quite a few BNers and other Parrotheads who greatly enjoy most of these highly talented Trop Rock artists, and who pack MOTM and other phlockings to capacity every year in order to enjoy them.

Loren,
who has written *two* songs mentioning Jimmy...so far :)

PS - you want "major," check out the live version of "Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo," by Tracy Byrd - the end of the song quotes the opening riff from "Margaritaville." Yeah, it's not lyrics...but maybe someone else will appreciate the info.
interesting tidbit. i will have to listen a litle closer, the next time the local bay area country station plays that song.

"listen to the stories i could tell"

I think I've heard Keith Sykes said it was about Jimmy. It doesn't say it here, but infers it.

He was hanging around with Jimmy in 1979 during the Volcano days.

I thought he was a member of the Coral Reefer Band for a time as well.

That's right. He was part of the band back then too.

".. singin' that Jimmy Buffett tune, why don't we get drunk and @#$%".

For better or worse...

Mota
Offspring
(Ixnay On The Hombre)

Mota!
Everyday, well it's the same
That bong that's on the table starts to call
My name
I take a hit and zone out again
I'll be paranoid and hungry by a quarter to ten
Watching reruns on my TV
I'm laughing off my ass at Three's Company
I don't know if I'm understood
But hearing Jimmy Buffett never sounded so good
Your memory's gone and so is your life (your life)

Mota Boy
But losing out just never felt so right
Your enemy's you and so is your life (your life)
Mota Boy
But losing out might feel okay all night
Mota!

I'm driving down to the barrio
Going 15 miles an hour cause I'm already stoned
Give the guy a twenty and wait in the car
He tosses me a baggie then he runs real far
I take a hit but it smells like a clove
Oh ***** I got a baggie of oregano
This ritual is destroying me
But I guess it could be worse
It could be methedrine

Your memory's gone and so is your life (your life)
Mota Boy
But losing out just never felt so right
Your enemy's you and your couch is your life
(Your Life)

Mota Boy
But losing out might take
Losing out might take you all night
Mota!
Losing out might feel okay all night
Yeah losing out might feel okay all life

I've been trying to obtain a copy of that one for a few years now.

I just listened to that song. Good one.

I just listened to Bob Karwin too and his song Drive mentions Jimmy too.

Fun listening to these guys.
