Burn That Bridge??

Post by ParrotHead Elm »

OK, it's a boring day, so I have too much time on my hands...

Am I missing something? Before Jimmy plays "Burn That Bridge" on many of the live recordings from the tour a couple of years ago, he constantly 'ad libs' [yeah right] that the title of the song has a couple of great Scrabble words in it.
What the heck is he talking about?? I mean it's been a while, but a 'B' is worth 3 points, right? And 'D' and 'G' are only worth 2 or 3 points each. Is he referring to the 'H' in 'That?' What are these great words? Or did he just lose his mind?

Maybe next time he should write a song with 'QUIZ' in it. Sorry, I mean he should cover a song with 'QUIZ' in it.
:P

At the time I thought it was an odd comment to make, and my opinion on that has not changed.

I got nuthin'
(Mebbe he was being sarcastic?)

I'm not saying I'm scared of you
But your love is something new
When I hold you we're swaying in the wind
Of all the bridges I've ever crossed
High and lonesome and wild and lost
I feel this time I'll take it to the end
We don't care what the people may say
If there's a price it's the price we'll pay

Chorus
And we'll burn that bridge when we come to it
Burn that bridge when we come to it
Burn that bridge when we come to it
Burn it down
Burn it down

We've both done our share of runnin' around
Now we know enough to know the kind of love
we've found
It's the real thing and we've got to see it through
eI'm a singer and a sailor on a midnight sea
Oh captain come and take me on your fantasy
If we're crazy that ain't nothin' new
'Cause we don't care what the people may say
If there's a price it's the price we'll pay and

Chorus

Who knows how it started
Who knows it's ends
The point of no return is waiting
just around the bend
“Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.”
- Kaiser Welhelm

OK, this is sad... and funny too, I guess, but I woke up before dawn with this revelation!
Both "burn" & "bridge" are words that you can get extra points for because "urn" and "ridge"
are words that can be used first, and then a pesky "B" can be added to either to get the initial
words to count again. (I play way too much solo Scrabble here http://www.themaninblue.com/experiment/SSCrabble ).
And if you add a "B" to the beginning of one and that square is a "double (or triple!) word score",
you add the entire second word perpendicular to the first and really rack up the points for both words!
See what I mean by "way too much"?

I understand what you're saying, but I think he clearly wasn't getting that deep into it. Even with the unlikeliness of your specific scenario, there wouldn't be an overwhelming amount of points, you know?

I truly think he lost his mind!!!!
