Robot????

Post by ParrotHead Elm »

Too much time on my hands again today...

During the live shows when Buffett says "Take it away, Robot..." is he referring to Robert Greenridge?? Is 'Robot' his nickname...or is Jimmy saying 'Robert' in an island sort of way? I'm sure this must've been covered before at some point.

Also, what instrument is "the pans?" [It sounds like "pines," but I think that's just Bubba's accent.] Unless I'm mishearing that one too!!

"pans" are the steel drums.

Can't say I've ever heard "Robot". :-?

I think it's an island-accent "Robert" (soft "R") from Jimmy. (Robert's from Trinidad).

And a common "nickname" for steel drums is "pans".

I figured the pans were the steel drums if he was talking to Mr. Greenridge. Listen to any of the live shows. "Robot," or whatever, comes out all the time. Swear I'm not crazy!!!

I've heard it on one of the live versions of "Knees of my Heart" he says something like "Take us there Robot" and then the pan comes in.

It may have started out as that, but now it's definitely being pronounced "Robot" :D
