I have a new model VW Beetle, and the manual says you have to take it to the dealer to get the headlight bulb changed! That sounded insane, but I called the dealership and they said it would take an hour and cost $100. I searched the Web and found step-by-step instructions on how to do it, bought the replacement bulb for $4 and did it myself in 5 minutes. I've had to change bulbs two other times since, and it now takes about 2 minutes. I know you have to pay the dealerships for their "expertise" as well as the parts and labor (as you do a dentist or doctor), but that estimate was crazy.

**UPDATE**

Paid $6 plus $5 shipping for a gasket off eBay Motors. Using a cup of very hot water with a few drops of liquid soap I was able to slide the gasket into place in less than ten minutes. It is flush with the antenna and car roof, no gaps or spaces.
$500 - $11 = $489 in savings and no downtime for the vehicle!
