Jimmy uses a teleprompter
Moderator: SMLCHNG
I swore back in 1983 that if any of Jimmy's fans ever got mad at or held it against him that he would use a teleprompter in the future that I would stop hanging around parrotheads and the such. No more talking or conversing with them - nothing.
I've stopped hanging around with them. Now I just need to stop conversing with them.

Rather than lying about it why not go ahead and be honest about using one? I have no problem with him using one, it's the dishonesty that's so unbecoming. And if it's true that he has been using one, what's with all the flubbed lines?LIPH wrote:So Jimmy said he'd never use a teleprompter and now he does.
Has anyone ever posted what Jimmy actually saw on the teleprompter? Could it could be nothing? Now THAT may just explain the flubbed lines!

Who cares? He's been doin this forever... He has done over 500 different songs (Check the song database...) and he keeps bringin back songs he hasn't done in a while. I can hardly remember what I ate for breakfast this morning let alone a song I wrote over 30 years ago and havent sung in 10. If he does use the teleprompter I'm pretty positive he doesn't use it for Margaritaville or Fins... probably for less common stuff. And if it ensures a solid and fun show then again... who cares?

Folks seem to be missing the point. I don't have a problem with him using a teleprompter. Covering it up when he's made such a big deal about not using one over the years, that I have a problem with. He would have been better off never to have mentioned it all rather than lie about it.

Someone said he's been using one for the past few years...I wonder if he had it from the Vegas show that the LIVE: FROM LAS VEGAS cd was recorded from. I always crack up at how he butchers "HOTEL ROOM"...he repeats the second verse twice at that show. I'm sure everyone who heard that cd noticed that.

The fact that people are saying they don't care doesn't mean they're missing the point, especially when you make the same point over and over and over and over. It means they don't care. You have a problem, it doesn't seem like anybody else does.Tiki Torches wrote:Folks seem to be missing the point. I don't have a problem with him using a teleprompter. Toooo many words to remember.
I don't have a problem with him using whatever he needs to feel comfortable.
The problem comes when I start forgetting the words to my own songs. And I ain't famous enough to use a teleprompter, and a music stand gets too much in the way.

Why do you say that, because I don't care that JB's using a teleprompter? There's 4 pages of posts in this thread, I just went back and re-read all of them and you're the only one complaining about it. Nobody else cares.Tiki Torches wrote:Oh, to go through life with blinders on....LIPH wrote:The fact that people are saying they don't care doesn't mean they're missing the point, especially when you make the same point over and over and over and over. Again, I have no problem with him using a teleprompter. It's that he's made such a big deal about not using one when in fact he's been using one since 1995. I don't know about you but I consider that to be out and out lying. I'd have a lot more respect for him if he never felt the need to make such a big deal about it to start with.LIPH wrote:Why do you say that, because I don't care that JB's using a teleprompter? I have a pic where you can barely see it, Mac pretty much covered it the whole night.
Oh well, for what the tickets cost to get into his shows, I would hope he would use any means possible to get the lyrics, song lists and or jokes right...I have no problems with it if he doesnt

I have more important things to worry about than whether or not Jimmy Buffett lied to his audience about using a teleprompter. If you want to get your panties twisted complaining about it, knock yourself out.Tiki Torches wrote:Again, I have no problem with him using a teleprompter. I saw Jimmy at NO Marg in 1995 and 1996 and there was no teleprompter. In 1999 when he came to the NO Arena...I wasn't looking nor did I care but I didn't notice any looking down at things during such never played songs as Ringling, Ringling and a few others.
As I recall JB said that on the 60 Minutes thing a few years back. Obviously he was making light of forgetting lyrics or whatever. He was obviously being sarcastic tongue in cheek.
If you think that's lying, stop going to the shows and stop being disappointed and whatever other problem you have. Complain about how many live albums there are or some other real complaint, like all the snitz you can buy at Marg online or Landshark's supposed bad taste.
I don't give a flying shits butt what Jimmy does with selling all that useless garbage and using a teleprompter and how many live albums he puts out - it's all up to me to buy or not buy that crap. Just as it is with anyone else. If he feels the need to make sure he doesn't screw up the lyrics to Manana or Kick It In Second Wind whenever he plays those again because 20,000 know it alls (well, maybe half that seeing that they are mostly SJOPTD fans) sing the song for him then mybe he should be singing them right.
Screw ups are human. JB is human. He usually recovers from his screw ups, makes them work and turn into alternate lyrics. Who gives a gotdamn? Not me. Neither do a lot of people.
