It was an Afro-Cuban band. I was too startled as to what was going on to remember who SJB said they were and the name of the song. I was busy starting this thread at that exact moment

I don't think Jimmy had anything to do with Fender's Squire series success. They are a poorly constructed guitar usually made in Mexico. He probably just happened to sign it.

So he might have signed one for somebody, but not neccesarily have ever owned it or played it, right?
My Squire bass does the job for me, but I just play for fun while my sons jam on the keyboards and drums.
I can't imagine a pro using anything from that division of Fender.

I can almost guarantee you that Jimmy has never owned a Fender Squire.(not that theres anything terribly wrong with them-it's just simply an inexpensive starter guitar for someone thats just starting to play)Actually lots of people like them after they switch the pups in them. It must have just been one that he signed.

Or it could be a fake. I'm no collector, but how do you authenticate the signature? Maybe antiques road show?
I guess as long as he is happy with it and his friends are impressed, no harm done

I signed up for a deal from a company in Nigeria that gives me unlimited access to all info related to Jimmy Buffet and guitars for only $13/month.
They told me this site participated in their network.
Hey, it's Tuesday anyway. I'll pick up SI after work and hear the song tonight. With the blizzard coming I'll enjoy listening after throwing all the snow. Friday I'll have myself a Landshark Lager in FL, provided the old van makes it there.

and they give you a chance to front for all the banished princes who have money tied up in foreign accounts, and get a 10% cut of the proceeds when they get their money out of lock-down, right?

Yeah, but despite that frugality, I stopped off at Borders to pick up the SI Swimsuit/JB edition regardless of cost after work and it wasn't there yet.
I was hoping that viewing those photos while hearing the new song would get me through this blizzard and stoked for the FL trip Thurs.
It was SUPPOSED to come out today, right?

Runways? Who needs runways!
If I ain't flying the plane, I drive the van. I'll hop onto I-75, My wife and kids will watch/listen/read/knit, and if I'm the only one awake enough when we hit the FL border, I'll drive the rest of the way as well. It's easy to stay awake on the way THERE.
I can't fit enough fun stuff in the plane, so that stays here.
We usually make the 1200 miles to Kissimmee in 17 1/2 - 19 hours, and I don't miss the sleep if the surf's up in Cocoa Beach. If it's too cold or there's no swell, we head down to the Keys the same day. That becomes a drain on a sleepless brain though.
When we used to fly the airlines to FL, by the time we parked the car, arrived early, faced the weather delays, got the rental car, and got to where we were staying, just as much time had elapsed. And that was pre-9-11
We've been doing the van trip for X-mas, President's Week, and Easter breaks for nine years now ( my wife's a teacher, and we still have two kids in high school). It definatly beats the airlines or flying the family myself when all things are considered. ($,time, schedule, weather, room for toys, etc.)

I hear you. I am used to travelling solo to a destination, so the additional logistics sometimes slip my mind. Tho, there was a trip about a year ago in Sept. where I had it planned that the flight route was from CMH to MSP to IAH to MCO... it would have taken 10 hours, but the frequent flyer miles... :D

then Rita hosed it up for me.

I drove to FL in college and grad school with a bunch of other students many times, but started taking the airlines after that.
10 years ago we flew with both of us and all three kids, and even though we had a great time, I knew there had to be a better way.
We already had the full-size van, and gas was a buck a gallon (.79 in Georgia). It turned out to be a no-brainer at the time, and now we are used to hauling so much stuff with us, that it's the only way.
C'mon, I've accumalated so much stuff over the years, I can brew coffee with 12 volts, 110volts with the power inverter, propane, you name it. I can run the 12 volt blender, or the normal one with the inverter.
The boys have been trying to get me to buy a tiny silent Honda generator, so they can power anything they want at any beach, but I still have'nt found a way to justify it to my wife. Maybe if they come up with electric knitting needles....
