I may have the opportunity to spend a day in Boston with my 9 yo keet. Travel up on a Fri then have all of Sat for the sites. If I'm going to pull him out of school I really want to make it an adventure and worthwhile. So, what should I put on the agenda?

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!

9 yo male...........I'd forget Newberry St., or at least make it last on the list, maybe get to Fenway, and The Garden, maybe also try to go skating on Frog Pond for a bit.
Duck Tours, altho I've never been, I must agree with pbans as anyone that I know that has taken it, says it's worthwhile.
And yum.................coincidentally I'm having cake from Modern tomorrow
There's plenty to do in Boston, Have fun!!!!

For a tour of Fenway, I would suggest going in early to see if she can get tickets.mommar wrote:9 yo male...........I'd forget Newberry St., or at least make it last on the list, maybe get to Fenway, and The Garden, maybe also try to go skating on Frog Pond for a bit.

Only reason why I won't is that I don't think I can afford it.TommyBahama wrote:Davio's is awesome!!!!aeroparrot wrote:Wouldn't go to Davio's I would go to Artu's thoughTommyBahama wrote:Lunch at Artu's The North End off Hanover street...i believe it's a right onto green street(There is a huge Church on the Corner)...then of course Mikes or Modern Pastry for Cannoli's!!!!Great Italian restaurant!!!...or Davio's if you want to spend big bucks on Italian thats on Arlington St.......or if steak is your pleasure....Abe & Louies on Boylston St.....Then there is always Faneuil Hall...Sea Aquarium and Newberry St for Shoppingjackiesic wrote:I may have the opportunity to spend a day in Boston with my 9 yo keet. They also have one near the Garden (about a block from the Fours).Big Jimmy wrote:Leave the kid in school, and spend a day at the best brew pup in Boston- BOSTON BEER WORKS. Right across the street from Fenway Park, and around the corner from the Buckminster Hotel.

Re: 1 day in Boston, what to do?
With a 9 year old . . . definatley do the Duck Tour. If the weather sucks then hit the Aquarium or the Museum of Science. Then get some cheap seats for the Bruins or Celtics. They might not be winners this year but checking out the Garden and all the banners and history would be neat for a 9 year old. PM me if you want some details.jackiesic wrote:I may have the opportunity to spend a day in Boston with my 9 yo keet. Travel up on a Fri then have all of Sat for the sites. the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

If you do the Freedom Trail (provided the weather cooperates) the North End, where all these Italian eating places are, is right ON it (the trail) --our kids used to joke that Paul Revere must have been Italian, because his home and the Old North Church -- lanterns, etc.-- were in the North End. And Boston has a great Children's Museum too, near South Station, and the "Tea Party" ship is right next to it. Make sure you take the 'keet to Bailey's for a hot fudge sundae, too. We love Boston so so much, when we head east in May to see our grown up 'keet get her MA at UMass we have a few days side trip to the Hub tacked on. Oh! And I don't know if they run in winter, likely not, but the quintessential thing to do in Boston is take a swan boat ride in the Public Garden, and the Cheers bar, which is just a nice bar really, nothing special, but it is right near the public garden.
PS When in doubt, ALWAYS take your child out of school when there is a chance to travel. The travel is ALWAYS more worthwhile!

Working out the last few details of this Boston trip. I looked into the Duck Tours but it appears to be an 80 minute ride/drive by so I'm thinking that one of the trolleys to be able to get on/off to really see soem things would be better. Apparently there are several. Anyone have any experiences (good or not so good) with any of these ?

do them both!! you will have time. do the trolley tour, old time trolley tours, during the morning and day. that way you can get on and off where and when you plese. then take the last duck tour of the day. it really is a good thing to do and you see things you won't see via the trolley. i lived in boston for some years, went to school there, and loved the duck tour. you should have time for all of it providing you don't start at 11 am.
