I think they do that on purpose...to sound 'live' for him. It doesn't help....at all.MikeInNOLA wrote:I am not liking the Orlando broadcast booth...sounds like it is set up in an empty bucket. Please do something!![]()
Okay, if the folks at RM read this site (as it seems) why aren't they doing something about JD? If they can't get rid of him outright, why aren't they tweaking his show and giving him a crash course in how to be a decent on-air DJ?
There just can't be that many folks showing support of his 'style' no matter how many 'shout outs' he gives. (Though those can be such as embarrassing. A few weeks ago he reads a letter from some poor woman named Sue*(*names have been changed to protect the innocent) and halfway through it goes 'oops, this is really from Mary!! Come on...how hard is it to consistently read copy correctly?)
How long has it been now? Almost a month? If improvement was possible, he should be showing some....instead he just gets more and more painful to listen to.

I was actually shouting "JUST SHUT UP" at the speakers the first time I listened to him. Poor Tom thought I was hearing voices or something I think.
And I wasn't as bothered before Sirius- but I have to pay to listen to someone who can't even complete a sentence on the first try?!
I think it's Jimmy just seeing how much PHs will tolerate...

My guess is the Parrotheads are not the demographic RM is going after.Coconuts wrote:

Instead, they are trying to lure in new listeners that happen across the channel and want to catch them with more than just the good music.
Until FM album rock started in the late 60's, listeners actually LIKED the crazy A.M. D.J.s with all their call in requests and other gimicks. These guys (and yes, not only were they all guys, but they all had last names that were in fact first names for normal people) became local celebrities themselves.
When F.M. album rock started, MELLOW dj's introduced the music and artist's names, then kicked back, kind of like the regulars on RM.
When you heard the Doors playing the incredibly long 7 minute version of Light My Fire, you were totaly blown away, and than afterward a soft spoken deep voiced dude came on and just said "that was the Doors, with the long version of light my fire".
FM jocks nowadays try to stir the audience up more. Ever listen to Sirius 32 Reggae? Those guys really try to become the stars of the show themselves!
Sirius and RM probably are trying to reach out to new listeners by having "exciting enthusiastic" rapport going on, whether it is JB correct or not.
How many times a day do you hear "This is Jimmy, and it's time we play something off my new CD Take the Weather With You"?
They don't have to promote that to Parrotheads, but just think of all those potential new customers that are just getting turned on to Jimmy!
Anybody know anything from reading the trades about what RM/Sirius real plans for the channel are?

Okay, so Parrothead's are not their target...fine and understandable, we are a semi-captive audience....but I don't think they he's turning anyone 'on' to Jimmy and a random person who may like some of the genre they play is going to be turned off to him just as quickly as many Parrothead's are.
In fact, I know this to be true. I was listening at work when a co-worker from upstairs came by to talk about a work issue....she's a huge Beach music fan and often can be found in the Shag clubs all over the state and SC...I recently turned her on to Pink Martini, so she's someone that might well like RM without currently being a Parrothead. (She's expressed interest in getting either Sirius or XM - needless to say I talked up Sirius and RM as something XM didn't offer in any form.)
Thing is, while we were talking JD was droning on in the background and she stopped and asked, "What the hell are you listening to? That DJ is an idiot."
What could I say?

Only because you have been accused of being a correctness cop on this site before..............LIPH wrote:She sounds like a valley girl with adenoids.
Let's HOPE she has adenoids! Most likely at her young sounding age she is still in possesion of her tonsils as well.
As a HOG you probably remember that EVERYBODY used to get them out. I do, but as a DAD I'm aware of the rarity of the procedure these days. Besides, I think you are really thinking more along the lines of a deviated septum.
With the middle kid heading off to college in the fall, and the youngest half done with high school, I'm starting to think about making the transition from DAD to HOG. Is that possible? Can I speed up the process and be both at the same time? Are coaches available?
JD did get on my nerves today, talking about fishin' for catfish on the St. James river with his Grandpa was alright, but his cracks about rhyming and just general nuisance stuff were indeed irritating. I'm still listening,
but I'm gonna go out on my longboard skateboard with my son now, the roads have dried a bit from the melt today, that will help me escape to Margaritaville with a little less annoyance. Whoa, Dr. John's on now, maybe I'll hang for a few more minutes.

Actually, she sounds like Savannah Jane to me....LIPH wrote:Oh God no!!! She has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard on radio. I agree...her voice is not the best radio voice I've ever heard....it is nasally...but she's not annoying in her content, knows her stuff...and I notice a general improvement in her show over time. What more can you ask for?LIPH wrote:Oh God no!!! She has one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard on radio. JD has yet to show any potential for growth or even interest in trying.
**Self=edited because it's not fair call the DJ in question a less then nice name simply because he's annoying***

RM DJ JD and others
You guys have not said one good thing about anybody on RM. so why do you listen? Play CDs.
I met JD a couple wks ago and he was pretty cool.
You have to admit, for PHs, our demands and standards on stuff about Jimmy and our phlocknigs are pretty stiff. You all are experts. Not easy to know every little detail like we all do from years of being fans.
JD was only doing his 12th show when I was there Mar 2. We talked before he went on the air and a couple times while music was playing. He's ready to chat. He hails from Tallahassee.

Not an easy venue, open air in full view in a cafe trying to be live on air and still appeal to the folks in front of you. I watched and a lot of folks in the cafe don't get it yet, or appreciate he was there, live. He had the stage mike open but no one would come up.
Customers (touristo's) weren't aware of the new RM venue. More PHs come to the cafe while he is on, I don't doubt he will try to mix in some visitors.
I've listened to him and he's okay by me. How about some others to join in the chain here and get some more input.
