I'm heading over there in April for a music teacher's conference and taking my wife with me. We're staying at the downtown Renaissance so we can walk most everywhere. I've hung out there a few times in the last few years, but it was mostly with guys going to college bars. Any ideas for places to go and things to do with my wife?

You could spend some time at the Opryland Hotel, take a riverboat cruise on the Gen Jackson, 2nd Ave, Broadway, and Printer's Alley are great for music. I'd love to meet you and your wife for lunch or dinner one day, let me know if you are interested.

I stayed at the Gaylord Opryland hotel for 3 days in December for a conference--great place to walk around!! We did the tourist thing by going to the Wildhorse Saloon downtown, and although it is touristy, it was a lot of fun. Us Yankees learned to line dance

My conference schedule on Thursday and Friday is pretty busy. I'll be in classes and concerts from 8am to 11pm. We are going to be around until late Saturday afternoon, though. Let me talk with my wife about what she has planned and I'll let you know something in the next couple of weeks. It would be cool to meet a fellow BNer and Vol fan! I wish the Predators were still playing then, I have always wanted to catch a game.

THE PREDS SHOULD STILL BE PLAYING. DEPENDING ON WHAT TIME IN APRIL- THE REGULAR SEASON ENDS AND THE PLAYOFFS BEGIN. JUST WALK DOWN BROADWAY. TAKE IN THE RYMAN AND TOOTSIE'S.

I was in Nashville a few weeks ago for a conference. I didn't have much time to do any touristy stuff, but I did make it down to BB King's and Wlidhorse Saloon. Had fun at both places. BB King's is a good place to go if you want a break from the country music. (And they have great fried green tomatoes there, if you like that kind of thing.) It's right down the street from Wildhorse.

If you've never been to the Opryland Hotel, it's worth a look for sure. I could wander around their atriums for hours. Definitely a sight to behold. It's also within walking distance to the Opry Mills Mall complex if you feel the need to power shop. It is not however, within walking distance of downtown Nashville. Neither is Monells, a family style restaurant that serves the traditional "meat and three" southern style cuisine. But rest assured, it's worth it. I've been there 4 times so far, and have yet to be disappointed

Well, technically it's within walking distance of downtown, but you'd probably be better off taking a car or cab.

My friends and family have stayed at the Gaylord and say it's special. (There is one in Texas too, they like.)
Enjoy yourself. Good to have those kinds of teacher conferences.

I'll be there April 18-21. How hard are playoff tickets to get?

WELL THAT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE SECOND ROUND. THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS TICKETS WAS NOT THAT HARD TO COME BY BUT THIS YEAR MAYBE A DIFFERENT STORY. BUT IF YOU SEE THAT THEY ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS AND WILL BE AT HOME ON ANY OF THOSE DATES, JUST CHECK TICKETMASTER FOR ON SALE DATES AND YOU SHOULD BE O.K. IF YOU GET THEM THE DAY THEY GO ON SALE.

Heading towards Nashville on Wednesday. The Predators play Friday night in a playoff game. It is evidentally sold out, but maybe I can score a pair of tickets from a scalper fairly cheap. We'll just see. UAH.......what is your schedule Wednesday-Saturday. I would love to go grab a bite to eat or something, but I'm on a pretty tight schedule. Check your calendar and I'll look at my schedule.

Here's the follow-up from my trip. Thanks for all the great recommendations! We had a wonderful time!
On Wednesday evening, we had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe' at Opry Mills and did a little shopping before checking into the Renaissance. On Thursday, I had a couple of sessions at the Convention Center and then headed over to the Shermerhorn Symphony Center for a private free concert by the Nashville Symphony. I got to sit in one of the private boxes right up practically on the stage. I was sitting right next to the String Basses! It was very cool! We had Jack's BBQ for lunch and Demos' for dinner. Both were very good as usual. Thursday night, I took my wife into Coyote Ugly's for a few minutes:lol: That didn't last long. Then we headed over to BB King's and had a couple of drinks. On Friday, after a couple of sessions we went to Monell's for lunch. IT WAS INCREDIBLE! I've not had food that good in a long time! Pan-Fried Chicken and Catfish, Spinach Lasagna, Biscuits and Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Slaw, Cucumbers, Corn Puddin', and Banana Pudding! That place is a jewel! We went to Eddie George's Sportsgrille in the bottom of the Hilton for dinner. We then scored cheap tickets to the Predator's playoff game and had a hell of a time! After the game, we headed over to the stage and had a great time. It was packed out! On Saturday, we attended the All-State concerts in the Symphony Center and then had some Baja Fresh for lunch. We tried to go to the Germantown Cafe', but it was closed for lunch on the weekends. After lunch, we toured the Country Music Hall of Fame, which was very cool. Before leaving town, we had to grab a couple of White Castle's and some Maggie Moo's. We had a great time and can't wait to go back.

Sounds like a great time. Have only been to Nashville once (both over night stays) & always wanted to go to Monell's.

Gotta love the Music City. I know I do. And I love those Tennessee Titans, too!
